I can't help but feel that the info from HB really dried up around the time Sidhe started making major announcements about licensing etc on their game. You get the sneaking suspicion HB were cruising up to that point on a repackaged rugby 08 and when it broke that not only was there a competing ***le set for release, but that it had already accumulated several major licenses and had features that had long been requested, they had an oh **** moment and are now desperately trying to come out with something that will shift the balance of interest back in their favour.

I actually hope this is the case as there hasn't been a ruggers game in years and I find it hard to believe anyone who got 08 on PC and has applied the latest mods, could possibly be satisfied with rugby 08 with a fresh coat of paint. I feel as a consumer its fair for us to want HB to struggle with the boundaries of what they can do and deliver a better rugby game and not a piece of junk trying to make some quick cash on the back of WC interest and the desperation of rugby starved gamers.

So is it fair for us to make demands of HB and tell them we are getting apathetic about their product. You bet your ass it is, because if they want the sales, they'll have to earn it now.

It's obviously ludicrous to suggest that a games developer has 'let down' an internet forum by not releasing information - as there is no obligation on their behalf to do this in the first place.

It's only emerged recently as a trend, and from HB's point of view - I can imagine how tiresome it is to wade through a swamp of mostly bone-headed suggestions from people who have no grip on the process of making video games on a budget, let alone the difficulty of obtaining licences, which people seem to value above all else. [That's a separate mystery to me. I'll always get more out of a game that plays well, than one which has a shiny coat of paint, but plays like a turd (case in point: FIFA, which has sold well for 15 years, despite only recently providing enough gameplay depth to motivate to play for more than one match). I've also seen 'Backbreaker' mentioned. If I was an NFL fan, which I'm not to any great extent, I'd be far more compelled by the innovative physics they have used, than by the next lazily re-badged Madden installment. Games designers will never be incentivised to innovate while people gush over cosmetic authenticity.]

Having said that, it seems to be slightly misleading to designate a forum as being 'the home of Rugby 2012' and post as infrequently as they have, especially as a Sidhe developer is replying to every groan and gripe that posters express, and getting drawn into exchanges about the back catalogue of his company. I'm sure there is a balance to be struck somewhere.

You seem to be making my point for me. Of course there is no obligation for HB to release any information on here, but then why designate TRF as the "online home of Rugby 2012"?

Because it's in their marketing interest for people to gather and share their anticipation and thoughts on the game, even if their input to the forum is scant. I doubt they'll lose much sleep over people whinging about lack of updates - it just shows there's an appetite if anything. In theory, it's also in their interest to take on board feedback: although I think it's a bit naieve to think that would use very much of it; not least because many of the suggestions are badly thought out, badly written, or both.

I don't doubt that they'll come to the forum with info when it's ready

Can't see how HB have "let TRF down". As previously posted by numerous others, there no obligation on their part to release any info. I'm as exited as the net person about the release and (sadly) everyday check the forums for updates (as well as post regarding "real" rugby - my main reason for being on here). At the end of the day HB have complications at the moment with licensing etc, so I'm gonna respect that and just enjoy the 6 nations and banter on TRF regarding it I doubt we'll see anything "substantial" until May/June anyways, thats normally when developers release "juicy" material. The less they post on here, the more promising for us that their actually doing work on the game

If HB are indeed having major issues with regard to licensing - why not outsource to EA (deals can be made) and give them a cut of the pie? Then they can focus on the actual game instead of worrying about whether some brand are going to get their panties in a bunch because their name was on a rugby boot!
