Gatland gone

The reason we can't compete with the top 4 is because of the quality of players, the reason we can't compete with Italy is mainly psychological in my opinion.
The Welsh should be praised, they are able to wake up every day, realise they are Welsh, face the existential dread of that and still soldier on. That is resilience. Sometimes it even stops raining.

...say your English without saying your English 😁

I'm really starting to think Shaun Edwards did a lot more for Wales then we know.

Ok, I am from the land that Wales wishes it was deep down, so there :p

Also, because I'm feeling petty, *you're
I actually read a book on the history of the UK recently. It was quite interesting to see how the different countries that make it play their role and how Wales and Scotland trying to copy England (thus, the problem they've had with Westminster etc) just wouldn't work. Different environment, landscape, ethics and interests etc.

It's kind of the problem the WRU have I guess. They've always tried to run the game from a top down approach, but it should probably be the other way round there.

Times headline:

Gatland: Decline in Welsh rugby down to Thatcher and English public schools.

Had to check it wasn't 1st April.

Don't recall him mentioning this when the Grand Slams were rolling in.

Gatland also says that he didnt pick Max Llewellyn because in the game against south africa he didn't come looking for the ball enough.
I wondered about that comment because, as I see it the Welsh backs aren't ever encouraged to break from the rigid structure of their game plan.

Him being ousted in the middle of a 6N championship must've been a sore one to take and I'm sure he wanted to get his side of things across and set the record straight. Was funny hearing him accuse England of tapping up young Welsh players.

Will be interested to see where he ends up next. I actually think he'd do well with the right group of (senior/experienced) players. Developing young players just isn't his forte. I reckon he'd do well with the current England squad. Maybe he'll go for an easy payday in Japan.

I think he's done, two gigs in a row have been disastrous now and his excuses have been average at best.

Especially considering he had offered his resignation at a more appropriate time for him and Wales

It really irks me when people outside the game talk about his Chiefs time as being bad, when everyone involved with the chiefs offers nothing but praise.
You hardly ever see bad comments post dismissal. Look at Gatland, the WRU are never going to say, thanks for 2008-2019 but you ****** up the last 2 years you idiot"

The Chiefs were happy to move him upstairs, away from coaching and team selection so they're not exactly going to say he did poorly as a coach they're going to put a different spin on it. I would say you would get a different, and more accurate, assessment if you spoke to Chief fans. The ones on here weren't exactly speaking highly of him.
