France v Wales

just looking at the stats again for the Ireland match it said France had 16 errors in the match, surely 13 of those were not down to Poitrenaud

It's possible with crazy stat France (like 36 tackles by Dusautoir in the NZ game).

That would also mean that if Poitrenaud wasn't in the team France could have stole the game with only 3 errors made (don't think that's right at all really)

I can see Wales going into a national state of mourning if we lose this match.
France having that 10 - 13 axis is just one of those erratic French decisions that's destined to pay off. Here's hoping for the contrary!
Also:  @ 'doing a Poitreneau'. It sounds so much better than BBC's 'He's done a Bergamasco!' fiasco.

Last Joker, let's turn to the Z plan...:

- Unscrew every red stud
- Swap the security stewards for top models ( Anti Henson strategy)
- Converse goal posts width from meters to feet (Anti Stefen Jones strategy)

I predict that any game plan that revolves around line breaks through a lightweight French midfield may need to be adjusted. In fact given the pure size and mobility of the backrow and backline they may well just look to shut Wales down, force the kick, and play counter attacking rugby.

Aside from the critically important 9-10 combination which is untried, that is still an impressive French side......... they'll probably lose by 20.

I predict Mathieu Bastareaud will be this tournament's Lesley Vainikolo![/b]

:p

At 21 years Bastareaud is already a key player in a top european side, maybe he won't make a great impact for his first 6N but at least he has plenty of time to improve.

Well I like it.

Looking forward to Baby at 10 - genuine ball player, but no real form to judge him by.

Beauxis has done well. Used to think he was just a big boot, but he's better than that. Problem is he doesn't inspire.

Jones can't kick through the goalposts anyway!

- Do a rollercoaster max height on the door to get rid of Shane Williams
- Tell Leigh Halfpenny it's past his curfew and he's not allowed out that late on friday nights
- Tell Lee Byrne that the UV rays from the floodlights will react badly with fake tan
- Confuse the word Galles with Gaul, prompting fullscale Roman invasion and slaughter of Andy Powell (Asterix) and Martyn Williams (Obelix)

on a serious note, am I the only one who's delighted this is on a Friday night?

I went to the England vs SA group game in the RWC on a Friday night in Paris and even though we lost I had a fantastic time. I've read people saying that it's too much of a trek to get back to the arrondisements, and by which time all the bars are shut... ********! Parisian transport is brilliant, it's a straight RER to GdN and then you're in business, there's some great bars around and they certainly don't shut too early! We were still drinking merrily at 3am...

I think a world cup is different as you've got fans following a team around the country so the day of the kickoff is not as big a deal, still is for those travelling just for the match, but for a one off test match it's a pain in the arse for away supporters in terms of getting time off work. If you're at home on a Friday night or out in the pub it's great to have a test match on, also given the viewing figures in France of the Friday night games they also dictated this as well.

As for transport don't make the mistake I did the first time I was at the Stade de France, lads we'll avoid the queues by walking to the next RER stop and we'll get a seat as well, problem was we didn't have a clue where we were going and ended up wandering round the suburbs of St Denis late on a Saturday night.

Still got mixed feelings on this one.
My heart says Wales, my head says... France will turn up for the first time since the NZ quarter final and beat us by 40 points.

yeah the heart says France but given the selection problems for France the head says Wales comfortably by 10 to 15 points.

France didnt turn up that day, NZ choked! But your right as a neutral its a game I'm really looking forward to. I havent a clue which way it'll go so here's hoping for a good game.

May the best team win, and the ref stay out of it.

Some of France's defence that day was nothing short of heroic. Maybe my mind is trying to make the tale more heroic, but I remember France going through long periods without the ball and France putting in tackle after tackle. The traditional Kiwi choke played part too though i suppose ;)

well they were clinical in the chances they took and their defence was awesome, they'll certainly need a repeat on both fronts tonight if they're to upset the odds.

I think it'll be a great game tonight. It's more or less too close to call but i'm going for Wales starting slow and France pushing ahead in the first half, then it opening up in the second half for lots of tries.

Probably talking nonsense of course.
