This season I have noticed a high amount of forward passes not getting picked up by the ref or the linesmen.
The Wellington vs Otago game was particularly bad, with at least 4-5 forward passes resulting in midfield breaks off the ruck leading to points being scored. Cristian Cullen liked to call them "flat" balls, but they were blatantly forward.
Why aren't the linesmen running the line and picking them up? Are they able to call these? Is their vision obscured? Should the ref run the line more? It's awful to watch on the TV and very frustrating.
