Favourite 5 & Least Favourite 5 Features of our Games

Dislikes:

* Lineouts: was a big problem for me especially in 08 the line outs in the previous rugby game i thought what was pretty good
*Camera: I thought most of the Camera angles were pretty bad again i thought the the previous game had better views.
*Drop Goals: Didn't like the way you had to drop goal.
*Stars: i though the 08 version had too many.. should get rid of them all together.
* Sevens Their was no sevens Tournament could attract a whole new audience.

Likes:

the fact it's a rugby game
existing tournaments and game modes
injuries and options to enable more realism via a sim mode instead of arcade controls
ability to mod the game for PC users
ability to have multiple roster files

Dislikes:

Create a player - limited customization options and weird big head effect in-game
Game breaking bugs and the total lack of post-release support to fix them. e.g. rugby 08 on pc crashes when you have an injury sub, when a try is scored and on pc pulling out the controller and plugging it back in has no effect.
Game rules not applied correctly and infraction not detected correctly. Full arm penalty given for lineout not straight. High tackles, forward passes, knock-ons, spear tackles, late tackles all not detected/penalised correctly.
AI is awful - 1. Horrible defense 2. Horrible offense 3. Sooooo easy 4. Never EVER uses subs outside of injuries.
Sameness of players right across the board with forwards and backs all using identical animations, it's like playing carbon copies with the only stat of significance being speed. This 'saminess' eventually makes the game quite boring after a while and provides a real lack of variety in what you do in-game i.e. you pretty much use the same tactics over and over.

I am really glad a new rugby game is being made but extremely sad it's only for ps3 and xbox seeing I don't own any of them because they are completely overpriced and the games are almost double that of pc games

5 Likes:

1.A lot of Licenses
2.World League really good but also found always the same players in the transfer window.
3.Super 14, Tri Nations, Lions Tour (06) and World Cup.
4.Heaps of stadiums to choose from and they were really accurate.
5.I like the the idea of star players because you do get players that make a big difference in a team like what is the All Blacks without Carter, the Wallabies without Giteau and Boks without Matfield.

5 Dislikes

1.Really easy to play against AI because it is very predictable in attack and defense.
2.Line-outs there is no competition I just stopped competing for the AI's throw to make it harder.
3.Rucks are pointless I can have all the momentum but if you break the line and gain 10m it is turnover ball.
4.Players bunch up and follow ball like a bunch of 10 year old players.
5.AI kicking is either way to strong or useless kicking from your 22 to your own 10m is really bad for professionals
I just have to add this last one:
6.A lot of stats were completely wrong like Morne Steyn with a kicking power of 50 and Lachie Turner speed of 40 just to name a few.

Dislikes:

-It has been mentioned before, but the lack of scroll on player select was a nightmare
-Player stats were horrendously out of date and inaccurate, players were rated based on perfromances from years past. in addition many players had completely wrong positions assigned (i remember dan ward-smith being a flyhalf), and due to the incomprehensible design that meant players couldnt catch if played out of position, many players were unusable.
-basic laws of the game being missed or wrongly applied (lineout not straight=penalty!, missed drop goal= scrum back!)
- animations that lasted far too long and occured as discrete events, we need a system similar to Madden's Pro-Tak. (I'm sure everyone has been ankle tapped while over the try line, causing you to run over the dead ball line)
-testing. the games looked like they had been tested for about 5 minutes. most problems people have posted in here would have been discovered on virtually the first time playing the game, which begs the question of how they made it through testing...

dislikes:
the lag when u tried to do a sidestep, score a try make a pass etc... it takes about a second for the players to do this
the way all of ur created players looked nothing like any of the other players on the pitch
when some of ur players dont stand in ur line corretly and u pass past them
the way ur flankers never attacked the opposition players from a scrum and just stood their
the way ur players get sucked into the tackles when they should run past them

likes:
the scrum wheeling in rugby 08
the drop goal options in 06
the camera options in 08
the defence set peices in 08
the ability to cheat in the rucks

Likes-
1) Lions Tour
2)Haka being preformed (Little Touches)
3)Off Loads in the tackle
4)Wheeling the Scrum
5)Teams like Russia being in the game

Dislikes-
1)Lienouts (Far to simple and boring. For me the lineout is the best part of rugby.
2)Rucks, random turnovers
3)General Defense of the AI team
4)Unrealistic stadiums and stats (Ravenhill and the whole Ulster team)
5) More or less the whole gameplay. Didn't stop me buying it the day it came out and palying it non stop!

Favourite

1. WORLD LEAGUE 06. This was by the the most fun way to play the game!!!
2. Heaps of stadiums to choose from
3. Wide range of clubs... could do with some more provincial teams (ITM cup)
4. Lions Tour

Least Favourite

1. Too many generic faces
2. Computer is too predictable and easy to beat
3. Drop goal ability needs to be more specific to each player (Francious Steyn for example)
4. Player stats don't seem to add up, seems that a lot of northern hemisphere players are better than southern hemisphere players
5. Rucks and mauls rules have changed so this needs to be looked at alot

THINGS TO IMPROVE ON:

DIFFICULTY:
- Increased Difficulty
- Online gameplay

GAMEPLAY:
- More tackling animations
- Remove "Star Players" system
- Allow players to play outside their given positions without affecting their performance
- ELVs
- Use of the TMO
- Ability to "hold up" the ball inside the in-goal (could be done in the same way as Madden's "Fight for the Fumble")
- Faster kicking
- Smoother transitions between different animations
- Removal of the "high-tackle button". Could be replaced with an "agressive tackle" button similar to that seen in Sidhe Interactive's NRL - Rugby League series
- Set plays from the lineout
- More control at the scrum; ability to time the hit of the scrum by pressing (X) as the ref calls "ENGAGE!" to either gain a good hit at scrum-time or be penalised for an early hit
- More interceptions
- Set plays are faster and work more efficiently
- Defensive calls, eg: Man, Drift, Rush and Kick Return
- More realistic animations for the shoulder-charge, hand-off and sidestep

LICENSING:
- Licensing for all international teams
- Possible inclusion of more competitions, particularly the Magners League, ITM Cup, Currie Cup, Pacific Nations Cup and European Nations Cup

PLAYERS AND TEAMS:
- More player uniqueness, especially with big name players. Eg: Bryan Habana's unique running style, Wilkinsons strange kicking posture and Matt Giteaus unusual headgear
- Different body proportions - Eg: Francois Steyn and Pierre Spies both have similar heights and weights, but Steyn has bigger legs whereas Spies has a much larger upper body
- Teams play with different styles, eg: Fiji play a fast, running-rugby game whereas England often keep the ball in the forwards and kick more than average. Teams such as South Africa are more likely to attempt drop-goals than teams like New Zealand.
- At least one stadium from every country featured in the game (So that Russia no longer have to play their home games at "Le Park, France" or have Uruguay play their home games in Buenos Aires)

CUSTOMISATION:
- Ability to create a team
- Ability to create a tournament
- Ability to customise a tour
- Create-a-player has a wider range of face templates covering many different races (Most people, I included, are not very good at making our own player faces and would happily select a template face that looks about-right)

OTHER:
- Online team and roster updates
- Variety in the soundtrack - Not a bunch of songs that're all rock and sung by british artists. Mix it up a little: New Zealand RnB, Argentine Rock, maybe some traditional South African beats ? The music needs to represent the modern internationality of the sport, not its English origins. Especially if it's to be released before the RWC.

Well thats my contribution to the discussion, i hope my suggestions are taken in (or at least read) by the people at HB . Thanks :D

likes:
-2004 line outs and set plays
-goal kicking in 08
-scrums in 08 but would be cooler if there was an engage thing idk just a thought
-the advanced line out idea in 08 just needs more to it
-box kicks are cool

dislikes:
-the kicking game u either kick crazy far or like 20 meters
-no chip kick
-bad forwards run u never see a forward hit up buy himself
-bad side step and fend it slows u down way too much
-lack or realism in ruck and mauls

i play rugby and have for 10 years i would be sooo grateful and so would everyone else if this was to come to action:)

Likes:

Set Plays. They are all good, But a wider variety and the ability to cancel when you see a player rushing up on the 1st five would be good.

Licences. I love the fact that most of the teams are licenced.

Squad Management. Although this could be more in depth it is still a great option

Star Players. I know there is a 50/50 like/dislike ratio of this. But I think it is good. We have tournaments between the boiz where we pick a whole squad and having the likes of Umaga, O'Driscoll and the star Kickers to choose from makes the draft pick so much more exciting.

Cards/Injuries. Makes the game a little more interesting if your player is carded

Dislikes:

Injury - The fact that the game sometimes freezes when an injury occurs.

World League - I think this could be far more in depth. As on Rugby League 2... You can coach a team, and players can be selected for representative sides. This would be an awesome addition to the game I already love.

Create a Player - I thought this was a rather slack create a player.

Sevens - I have seen this suggested and also think it would be a great addition to the game.

Customization. I just think the game could be far more customizable.

Become A Star - I think they should have a become a star like on many other next generation games. Where u create a player and watch him become a star from grassroots to Representative football.

Regarding Rugby 08

Five favouite features :

Pick up and play ability - The Rugby 08 play tutorial is important for people new to the game of rugby and gamers.

Suggestion - Keep this

Game Depth - Game Depth for Rugby 08 was light ( e.g. half time stats, full time report, create a player, weather conditions, career mode ) but was enjoyable.

Suggestion - " Hear " half/full time reports. Create a player - include players worth in currency reflected on players stats and every team has a Salery Cap. All International Teams have the SAME salery cap.Provincial teams have a salery cap limit but a lower cap then international teams. Pick weather conditions or LIVE weather conditions depending on which stadium you play at on Xbox LIVE.

Simple but effective online multiplayer feature for rugby 2012: example

Xbox Live Rugby 2012 Rankings Leaderboard

Gamertag : ANTHEAD
Leaderboard Possission: 1009
Rank Points 26
Bonus Points 2
International Team most played New Zealand
Provincial Team most played Auckland Blues
Games Played 11
Games Won 5
Games Lost 4
Games Drawn 2
Win/Loss Ratio 0.80
Winning Streak 5
Games Drawn 2
Red Cards 2
Yellow Cards 3

The online leaderboard should all be one row, from left to right, starting with GAMERTAG at far left and finishing with yellow cards.( example : same leaderboard structure as in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 ) I couldnt post it this way. From left to right enables easy scrolling through your online friend lists and compareing online leaderboard stats and online leaderboard possission.
*** Rank points are determined by a points system:

* 4 points for a win
* 2 points for a draw
* 0 points for a loss

"Bonus Points" may also be earned in any given match and count toward deciding the winner. A total of two bonus points can be possibly scored:

* The Attacking bonus point by scoring four or more tries in the match, regardless of the final result.
* The Defending bonus point by losing by seven points (a converted try) or less.

A victorious team can collect either 4 or 5 points, depending on whether or not it scored 4 tries in a game. A losing team may collect from 0 to 2 points. At the end of the game both teams collect and take with them their Bonus Points and Rank Points, which are added to their personal stats to give them their leaderboard possission on the Xbox Live Rugby 2012 Rankings Leaderboard. ( As Shown Above ).

**** The Rank Points gives your Leaderboard Possission on XBOX LIVE MULTIPLAYER.
**** Bonus Points are added to become part of your Rank Points.
**** You can pick and play any team you like online being International or provincial....if your good enough.

This point system is tried and tested for the Tri Nations. I thought it would be a good idea and exciting for gamers, to incorporate this scoring system as shown, for online play, which encourages scoreing whether your winning or its a loss. Most people are more inclined to continue playing the game online, even if theyre loosing, so they can score the Defending " Bonus Point ". Every game will count.... now youll have two scores to deal with ! Your in game score and the Xbox Live Rugby 2012 Rankings Leaderboard score !

** This easy but effective online leaderboard feature enables the gamer ( player ) to play the game of rugby with absolute freedom on how they chose to play the game, whether its a win or defeat, the player can still add Rank Points to their leaderboard status ; enforcing replayability and challenge.

** Added feature : Braking the Leaderboard into catagories. example : Northern Hemisphere vs Southern Hemisphere.
** I added Red Card and Yellow Card amongst the leaderboard stats to give the player a brief characteristic of a specified gamers in-game performance.

include on ground adverts, team name in the try score area, research tv pre match presentation and build up to eg international and super 14. SPECIAL UNLOCK : CREATE OWN CUSTOM TEAM. CHOOSE FROM JERSEY STYLE, COLOUR, BOOTS ETC WHICH CAN COMPETE IN CAMPAIN OR IN ANY SINGLE PLAYER ONLY SETTING. NOT AVAILABLE FOR MULTIPLAYER BUT UNLOCKED THROUGH COMPLETEING MULTIPLAYER CHALLENGES.

** Hint - special gamerscore achievments / unlocks - e.g.
1) Score 500 Rank Points
2) Recieve a yellow card in a game and win by 20
3) Two men down - Recieve two red cards in the first half and win the game with a bonus point.
4) Score four or more tries in a match
5) Score four or more tries in a match and draw
6) Clean sheet - No cards for 10 consecutive multiplayer matches
7) Lift the Rugby World Cup
8) Created a player
9) Score 500 Bonus Points
10) Score 1000 Bonus Points
11) 100% - Kick 8 penalty Kicks only in a game and win.

Audio - Audio is as fundimental as visual and rugby 08 had great audio. It was the audio that brought the game to life. At times repetitive commentary but the overall audio result outclassed this.

Suggestion - Commentry Depth

Extras - Replays, Before kick off atmosphere, game atmosphere, sfx.

Five least favourite features

Challenge Strive and Succeed: To succeed in Career mode and single player, became too easy. The learning curve for the game was quick due to the tutorial and with moderate AI difficulty, loses the need to play the game as often as i would have liked. Replayability and game challenge will prosper when xbox live multiplayer is introduced to Rugby 2012.

Authenticity - Player names ! Stadiums, official rugby ball ! Current Uniforms !

Menue Navigation - found it difficult to find saved games, game accomplishments in rugby 08.

suggestion - To make the Main Menues that more exciting before you kick off :
e.g. Your favourite team are the N.Z. All Blacks
Next to the menues show many repeated short length videos of the best history of world Cup Moments for N.Z. All Blacks.
If there are Rugby Challenges in single player, use video moments.

*** I think it would be a cool idea to be able to save your teams game statistics in Single Player Custom Tournaments, plus maybe online score stats. Its nice to look back on previous epic battles youve had and check out some stats.- example :

Date 07.05.2012
Location : Sydney Stadium Australia
New Zealand vs Australia
Half Time Score 15 - 24
Full Time Score 28 - 27

Thats all i can think of right now. All the best with rugby 2012.

Favourite 5 features
1) It was a rugby game.
2) The world league (although I would prefer if you had Magners League,Anglo-Welsh Cup, Guiness Premiership and maybe even second tier competitions e.g. English Championship or Welsh Premiership).
3) Scrummaging.
4) Default camera angle.
5) Stadiums.

Least favourite 5 features
1) England were always overated.
2) Squads in 08 were hardly different from 06.
3) Not being able to scroll through transfer lists.
4) No online gameplay.
5) Unrealistic transfer market e.g. anyone would move to anyone if you had the money.

5 favourite features:
. upgraded scrummaging feature in 08
. new camera angles in 08
. team chemistry in 08
. dummy passes
. world league

5 least favourite features:
. Rucks: not realistic and random.
. contact. You go straight down or straight through the opposition when going into contact. needs to be more realistic taking into context the balance, power of the player etc... Maybe have similar gameplay as the Madden games.
. lack of leagues
. licensing issues and not being able to update rosters online
. lack of overall dynamics in gameplay.
. sorry but had another one. only being able to have 30 men squads.

Top Five Features: 2008: Offloading Ability produced momentum, Rugby World Cup Challenge Mode, Different types of set moves, 2004: Ability to edit any player in the game, the realistic crown graphics in 2004 and the stadium options

Top Five Cons: 2008: Ruck and Maul interpretation is to predictable, turnovers are to frequent, example loosing the ball every second, also the quality, the ball just seems to roll over to the over side of the ruck on occasions. Global stats, the computers defense is too predictable, their ain't enough defense animations also, teams only attack in the 75th minute, Morale and Form in 2008; Had no precendance, only in tournaments, star players only seemed to have a rating of 99 for morale and form, mispelt names I understand their wasent enough licensing, but quade cooper as a flanker before 10, and the stats of some players also, some players just had allocated stats of 50, its like they diddnt do their research, liam messam for example should of had better stats.

1. Good control system (just needs to be enhanced, do not change the controls all together)
2. Dummy was great but needs to be more exaggerated when done to fool HUMAN opposition.
3. Place Kick for poles. Accurate and realistic
4. Offload Mode: Option to make it SIMULATION was good coz it prevented ARCADE passes!!!
5. Grubber was great but does not work against humans coz it takes too long and opposition can see what you are going to do before
committing to a tackle.

Five Favourites
* Detailed Stadiums
* good offload system
* accurate kicking
* Big Hits

Non Favourites
* Create player was not very accurate
*08s World Cup Mode was very basic
*players were rated to high or to low
* Player like habana would spoil the game because no1 could catch him
* Refs were not accurate with the dissisions they made

I would like to thank HB-Studios for the announcement for RUGBY 2012 and would like to ask you for you to put a trailer and screen shots together if you got the time soon and will you give us some info about what new stuff you have added to the game thank you

Top 5 things -

1. World League Mode (It was enjoyable but i think everyone has the same thoughts on this to make it more realistic and maybe bit more of a story. contract negotiations hopefuly in the 2012.)
2. Big Hits (Id like to keep this but maybe include a button to make a BIG hit - Fatigue could play a part in this. Tired players could become easy victims, but a tired tackler could be walked over and cost his team dearly.)
3. Dummy and Offloads
4. Detailed Stadiums
5. Goal Kicking and Kicking out of hand

5 least fav -
1. In career mode, the french players were all fake names
2. all the foreign players in the NH were all fake names.
3. Not much difference in roster to rugby 06.
4. The all round depth of the game.

I could say alot but i wont waste me time.

My least favorite thing in rugby 08 is when your player gets high tackled after he passes the ball to another player, this stopping play in most cases (unless no fullback in front) as reff calls a penalty. It should be changed to advantage or sumthing were you can decide to kill ball and go back to penalty or keep playing. Of course ethier way the ref decides on the punishment of the high tackler, whether game play carried on or went back to the penalty.

I didn't like the way that after about 3 seasons it was all the same people available to buy on the transfer market, no new options or opportunities to change/improve squad

plus:

1. Camera angles from 08.
2. Improved graphics.
3. Accurate stadiums.
4. The Haka (wouldnt mind seeing Fiji/Samoa/Tonga's aswell)
5. The world league is the greatest and replayable feature in this game (but could be way better)

Minus:

1. No control over rucks and mauls.
2.All of the world class kickers can boot the ball the entire field
(you could put soo much effort in getting to their try line and the opposition just kick it all the way back to yours)
3. Weather patterns during a game needs to change.
4. Drop goal attempts can only be done around the 22 when real players can drop kick it beyond the half way line.
5. Side stepping and fending needs improvements.
