Favourite 5 & Least Favourite 5 Features of our Games

Good Times
1) A generous providing of licenced players + teams.
2) Create a player feature.

Bad Times
1) Rucks and mauls
2) Tackling animations
3) Lack of game physics
4) Sticky menu's
5) Unrealistic running

Top 5 Dislikes;

* Inaccurate data collection on players (sorry, some players were drastically overrated. Jason Robinson was well past his best here)

* Predictability of results. I found it frustrating when doing 6 nations or europeon cup the same teams ALWAYS had similar results against each other. How about England losing to Scotland once in a while? Wales losing to Italy, England losing to Wales etc.? Australia losing to England...

* No Team Editor - Being able to create a team or just edit a team name would have given08 some more mileage. This gives players chances to make extra teams for Lions tours, a World XV select, ENG & Wales vs SCO & IRE. A team edtor with an almost copy and paste function would be good. Players could also introduce smaller clubs and get them to compete. Championship clubs as Exeter in the premiership or Hawke's Bay against the lions. How about 'A' teams/ NZ Maori for pacific cup/churchill cup competitions.

* No competition editor - As an Osprey sfan after I'd done the European league the club side of things is pretty much finished in 08. At least the ability to randomize groups in the european group would have been good.

* 15 manrugby - Rugby must be an almost impossible video game to get right. One thing I think could be done is to get a good understanding of 15 man rugby. i.e. backs and forwards cgoing into rucks and mauls. Basically, when playing rugby you don't wait for the forwards to turn up to join the rucks and mauls, the closest group of guys fly in. This would lead to miss matches and differences in mid field which in turn would lead to a more open game. Eaiser said than done however. I think the most unique aspect of rugby union is how disjointed the game is. When the rucks and mauls happen it can really throw up some miss-matches in midfield. You can't always gurantee the cntres are in the right position and theres always a forward lurikng in the back line seeking glory. Its most unlike Rugby league or american football in that respect. So, a more disjointed, unpredictable game style.

TOP 5 Likes

* Barbarians Team and Trade Players - Interesting to see how different teams line up etc.
* DROP GOAL - Finally, in 08 the drop goal was mastered. A really good system, I often use them now in a game.
* Lions - in 06 this was the single most best thing in a rugby game ever. And the fact you could pick the tour party was amazing. The overall squad selection idea is just absoloutely spot on in 06/08.
* Player Editor - Very good for a rugby game - although I though it offered some uneeded options. Personally I think detailing jaw/mouth structure or eye position isn't really that important. Detail in hair style ok, this is a very distuinghishable feature but as for facial expression and facial features, keep t simple as possible. I can't help but think that the player editor in 08 wa carryin g a bit of slack. Jaw line etc??
* Stadium detail - crazy as it sounds i thought Twickenham and Millenium stadium in particular were detailed really well. You can almost imagine the game shappening there. That point was truly nailed in the game. (08)

Least Fav:

1. When playing long games, injuries can be a nightmare with players out of position and simply dropping the ball. Need something a bit better than this.
2. When chasing and preparing for the fullback to tackle and covering the support player with the human controlled player, during the pass the defender gets caught in the animation sometimes and ends up either stopping or attempting the intercept and missing. Perhaps there could be an option button to attempt intercept but that sounds difficult.
3. not utilizing change of direction and angle running to potentially beat tackles rather than special ability/fend/bump

I like the rest so anything that improves 2008, choice!

Five Favourite:
1. World League
2. Other tournaments (would love a proper coach/manager mode)
3. Wide selection of players with varied stats.
4. Proper licenses (especially when it comes to player names)
5. Good goal kicking system

Five Least Favourite:
1. The wait between releases (would be happy to pay to download a roster update each year/whatever)
2. Game-freezing bugs (downloadable patches will hopefully be on the cards with this gen of consoles)
3. Sluggish performance on team roster menu.
4. Lack of customisation support (for example, you can make a player, but you can't edit existing players; you can change an existing team, but you can't add a team)
5. Incorrect enforcement of the rules of the game (it's annoying that you can tackle players who don't have the ball)

Lack of created player stat tracking. I want some profit from always passing the ball to my gun fly half ;)

Likes
1. Licenses
2. Tournament options
3.The ability to do set plays in the midst of the match

Dislikes
1. Kicking - such a spontaneous and integral part of the game should be simulated. Perhaps using the Right analog stick in a way that creates the motion of the kick. Bombs chips and grubbers could be selected by using other buttons as combinations. Also the aiming should not be so obvious.

2. Running - stepping palming and bumping are all very important to strong runners. Perhaps the L2 button could be used with the regular left analog stick for controlled footwork or shifting of body weight to bump and fend.

Running off the ball is also very limited as it is fixed while the ball is mid air while being passed. Players should have the opportunity to run on broader angles before receiving the ball.

3. Tackling - I think tackling should be controlled by the right analog stick, depending on how strong you thrust it and depending on direction the player should respond accordingly..e.g if you do it a small amount it could be a standing tackle and very fast a spear tackle.

4. Rucking - could become a lot more controlled by having the option of controlling a single player into a certain spot in the ruck as well as having a button to add players, this way you could concentrate more on the ruck or more on the defensive line.

5. The automaticness (not a word) of the set play, you should have to learn where to pass and run with the computer running the other lines for the player you are not controlling

These changes would create the slow strategical build and the flashes of brilliance which rugby produces

Your dislike ideas are spot on dude! It would make the game as fast and frenzied as you want or as complex a build up as you can muster... brilliant ideas to tackling and running lines from either player (off the ball) or by the computer (player on the ball) this adds all new and interesting dynamics!

Thank you. I really hope they get some good ideas out of this instead of some kook ranting about drop goals and barbarian teams...simulation of the game is paramount

likes:
1. the amount of set play options
2. lions tours
3. challenge mode

dislikes:
1. your player drops the ball if he is out of position
2. commentry
3. in world league you can't pick and scout out players, like in pes 09 master league for example
4. the scrums and lineouts are to easy to win

Range of teams and tournaments
2-4 player vs mode

Top Dislikes:

No online game modes.
AI isn't intelligent enough.
No variety in rucks/mauls. Needs to be more advanced and have more factors involved in deciding possession turnover, contesting, etc
No physics. Inclusion of a physics engine would add a new dimension to the game and would reduce predictability if done right.
Set moves are clunky and ineffective against experienced players (vs mode)
Offload passing is far too rudimentary (no control over where the offload pass goes, currently is random whether it goes left or right)
Cannot play as Lions in vs mode.
Not enough weather effects.
No over-head chip kick that can be performed with a single button.

Favourite Features:

World Leaugue Mode. If you do something like that with the Super 14 it would be awesome. (You know, buying and selling players. But there should be more. Like contract negotiations etc.)

Quick line-out. Was very needed.

B&I Lions tour on the earlier games - This must return. Except you should have the opportunity to play against them.
Least Favourite Features

Players knocking it on if out of position. I will lose my mind if this is in the next game.

The fly halves with their kicking power on 50. Ruined alot for me.

The way you don't go back for the penalty if the ball goes out while playing advantage.

The names. Rather don't put the player in if you can't get the llicensing. Like N. Large for N. Little is horrible.

The drop goal distance is far too short. It's pathetic how Frans Steyn or Henson can't slot a drop goal from further then 40m out.

likes and dislikes

likes
1. free flowing running, not very restrictive like fifa etc can frustratingly be at times
2.big hits
3.in-run options (i.e. stepping, bumping, palming)
4.special abilities (however, some could be more noticable)
5.player creation freedom!

Dislikes:
1.AGES to navigate through player menus & rosters...search engine needed, Rosters didn't allow for free movement of players to various clubs when they're already rostered. introduce signings, maybe even coach/manager and/or career mode to compliment this.
2.not enough variation in ball movement, i.e. passing, kicking, popping off ground, flick passes, chip kicks, set moves were slow and inneffective. there needs to be more opportunity for creativeness as a player, certain players must be able to create awesome counter attacks and draw defenders better than others for example...big guys draw more defenders, creating holes out wide....this needs to be evident with various options in forward runners not only off the ruck butt off the fly half and inside centre.... in a real game, not every player just gets in a line or piles into a ruck, they position themselves tactically....the roles of each position on the field need to be programmed to reflect this so there is more variation in what you can do when you have the ball so you can build your play up and score good tries and control the ball, additionally, we could see choose-on-the-fly defensive structures, i.e. rush defense for when opposition ball is slow, being able to pick and choose these things on the fly would improve the game 10-fold!
3.inaccurate player ratings can be really frustrating, but this is where freedom in creation/player editing is key as research and accuracy in ratings accross the board is not easy to do.
4.physics badly need tweaking...some kicks/passes go forever, having said that guys like gav henson and frans steyn have to be factored in, cause they can actually do some of that!
5.rucking and mauling too simplistic, not competitive, inconsistent, unrealistically won and lost...we want to be able to build momentum through phases and find gaps in defences, get rewarded for big breaks with ball retention in attack and be able to slow the attack and disrupt and eventually steal in defence and create awesome counter attacks in broken play....ripping in one-one one tackles, big cleanouts and steals after dominant tackles, opportunities for counter-rucking etc.

Thanks guys, really looking forward to an awsome game!, sorry the good looks as if it is outweighed by the bad, but that's probably what you're looking for anyway! hopefully some of the points help!

sry wrong post but has anyone mentioned jumping for a catch? Really liked that in jonah lomu rugby. Damn, can't wait for this game to be finished.

5 favourite features
1.Customize your own player(but more accessories should be added more boots as well and baselayer)
2.Free flowing rugby (but bit to stiff players get tackled to easy and there is no gap running)
3.Stadiums
4.Jerseys(but some were not authentic but i hope in the new game all jerseys will be authentic)
5.Special moves (side step, palming , crash ball all that plus special abilities all good)

5 least favourite features
1.Turnover( the ball gets turnover too easy and randomly)
2.Movement of a player ( to stiff and not like a Fifa 10 player movement)
3.List of competions ( in the new game all the competions like Magners league Top 14 should be included etc)
4.small players tackling big players(shane williams puts a hit on jerry collins)
5.not being able to do little chip and chasse kicks

Favourites
1) Licencing (could do with getting more though, especially all the national teams)
2) Stadiums- pretty accurate
3) The Challenges were pretty cool
4) Quick lineout
5) Lions Tour (MUST be brought back!)

Least Favourites
1) Scrums- they were basically pointless in the previous games as 99% of the time you won your own ball, even if you were playing the All-Blacks with Spain. It would be great if you could revamp the scrums.
2) Lineouts- far too easy, you can win them every time if you use the first jumper, make them more difficult and lets have more options to choose from.
3) A.I.- they make a lot of dumb decisions
4) Way too easy in general, make the next game WAY more difficult
5) proper player ratings/rosters- half of the guys for Canada in the games are retired, and the guys that aren't, their ratings are inaccurate. It would help a lot to make the ratings accurate, especially in the minnow nations which is obviously a big market for you guys.
6) Be able to keep stats- metres gained, tackles, knock on's, etc.
7) Rucks- they need to be changed, but that has already been discussed a lot.
8) Why couldn't you randomise the seeding in the 08 version for the World Cup? Gets really boring playing the same teams in the same order... I would like to see the Pacific Nations Cup, Churchill Cup, and Nations Cup added too.

It would be great if sevens was incorporated, as well as a create a tournament option.

What are your 5 favourite features of our game(s)

1 The tutorials and practices are awesome. Its sooo easy to learn

-What are your 5 least favourite features of our game(s)

1You cant change players stats easily, they should copy maddens editing system so you can have an accurate/default roster and another one where you can mess around with the stats and make the entire Western Force 99 overall
2change players ratings in different positions for example a fast guy with bad tackling and passing who plays wg/fb has the same rating when you move him centre.copy fifas way of changing players
3Dangerous tackles, sometimes at the end of a game I can just keep on doing dangerous tackles and only get one sin bin. When youre defending the lead in a game you can just close it out by commiting dangerous tackles till you get away with it

the list goes on 5 isn't enough even though i just named 3

- What are your 5 favourite features of our game(s)

Best features

- improved drop goal aiming in Rugby 08
- World league (although I concur it would be nice if it was closer to a Fifa style manager mode)
- Dummy passes (although these need a bit of work to be more effective)
- Lions tour
- Challenge mode

Worst features

- Side step - This feels quite clunky and limited. It would perhaps be better if one of the analogue sticks was used to step right and left (a la Madden) although there may be other practical reasons this wouldn't work.

- Forwards - The power of the pack is pretty limited and having superior forwards doesn't really translate into an appropriate advantage - would love to see forward play become a little more dynamic.

- Inability to play players out of position - very frustrating and quite unrealistic when a player knocks the ball on every time. Perhaps the disadvantages of playing someone out of position should come more in defense?

- Moral / form - these are great ideas but really dont translate into much in terms of game-play. Would love to see them become more influential.

- Underrating of teams / players - playing as Russia etc. is quite frustrating as I'm sure in real life they can pass the ball better than in Rugby 08! Maybe their shortcomings could be translated into defensive weakness as opposed to poor coordination?
