What is Chavangas actual time? Dwayne Chambers is one of the quickest men in the world, you cant dispute this as he has been a european champion and world medalist. These guys really are nothing on him, i know its hard to take that someone could be quicker than some Bok players but its true. The fact is quick for a rugby player and world sprint quick are quite different, just because Jake White says that hes the fastest man he trained doesnt say to much as hes only trained rugby players.[/b]

True True, But remember, Chavhanga is Zimbabwean, and competed in the Olympics when he was only 16 years old. He was a medalist as well, but specialized in the 200m races. His fastest ever recorded time on the 100m circuit is 9.98. So, it would be pretty interesting, and i was going on what Z Ngwenya said. Z is incredibly fast, and was at the same high school in Zim as Chavhanga, where they both competed. He stated that Chavhanga is incredibly fast, and beat him every time. He also said that he doesnt think anyone in world rugby will catch him. But Chambers i have to admit, is lightning..... It would be very interesting indeed.

My apology Schalk, didn't mean to sound incompitent. Forgiven? :)

No problems ;) I never knew he competed in the Olympics, what year was it? i thought he was around 10.2 but if that sub 10 if true thats an incredible time. Also yes it would mean he could give Chambers a serious run for his money.

Oh by the way when is Tonderai back from injury? Humans doing a good job but he doesnt have the same flair.

He should be back this weekend i think. Hamstring is only 4 weeks isn't it? Man i hope so. :( And, sorry, he was a member of the Olympic training squad. I saw it on a Springbok player profile i worked on a couple of years ago.

Oh yeah, have you ever heard of an American Football player named Devin Hester? Look him up on youtube. I have never seen anyone move like that. EVER. Amazing skill and speed. When he runs, it looks like the entire field just gets left behind. Seriously ridiculous. Check him out and tell me what you guys think.

And BTW, Dwayne Chambers, yeah, i gotta say after checking some stuff out, i reckon he will burn everyone. Including Tondie. He is lightning.

Ah getcha now, i hope he is back of course but havent heard anything about him for a while. He will surely be back for the semi final though ;)

Just watched a video of Hester, his speed is amazing, considering the huge pads and helmet he wears, burns everyone no problem. Of course if you want ultimate speed, Asafa Powell is the man, hes broken the world record a couple of times. 9.76 i think.

I find this debate to be slightly pointless. Rugby players are built to play rugby, not to win a 100m sprint at the olympics. According to the above list though, I'd rate as follows:

1) Tonderai Chavanga
2) Bryan Habana
3) (Rupeni?) Caucau

So you reckon having a fast players in your team is pointless?

I agree. I would rather have a 15 man 100m record breaking team than anything. There is just no substitution for pure pace.

Speed over short distances is more important imo. Few players in rugby history had/have the skill to score 100 metre tries.

Exactly. If a quick player has poor handling or poor defence, they can train to improve. But you can't teach pace.

Rabeni was the first name that popped into my head when you said that. Man does he have cack hands

I dont know, some people have an uncanny ablilty to consistently drop the rugby balls. In real life It's like a disease you end up playing with these people for years and they NEVER improve!

Or the Ndungane brothers. Geez, I think something happened to both of them in their childhood that permanently screwed up their hands. Seriously.

Imagine trying to play catch with a fish, thats what it's like for them.

What about that dude with the dreadlocks that played left wing when Habana was injured (Delmas?). He's quick but has terrible hands. He dropped the ball 3 times right by the tryline in one match and I've never seen him again lol.

Yea he's back playing for the Bok sevens squad, he's certainly not s14 standard.

From this list, Chavanga easily. The best thing though is that he's really worked on his all round game lately. If only injuries could stay away he would be great.
I agree that speed isn't everything though. There are 2 other South Africans that are very fast: Jongi Nokwe and Zahier Rhyland (played in vodacom cup - 2nd tier competition). But their defence, catching and passing is nothing special and until they work on that, I don't see them doing much in the bok jersey.
