Didn't Honda give Red Bull a little 'something extra' as a going away present?

Even with midfield pace Merc get the max out of the car, no pun intended, impressive team. I don't know how quickly they can fix their issues, but if it's soon enough a three way ***le race is on the cards.

McLaren going to shite the only real disappointment this week.

Edit: This word censoring is gas.

Booble

Well that one shows.

My guess is Imola for Mercedes, no way for Saudi next week, Australia also a fly away.

They do seam to have fixed part of the porpoising issues compare to the start of the weekend. So progress is being made they stepped up from where they were.

I really hope McClaren it's all about lost testing time.

Merc and Ferrari definitely have the best driver lineups but Merc has a long way to go to catch up to Red Bull and Ferrari in terms of cars. If Red Bull continues to have reliability issues it could be a Ferrari walkover.

It felt like the motorsport gods passing judgment on Masi's divine intervention from last season towards the end there. More seriously:

- some improvement does seem to have happened with the regs, I'm cautiously optimistic
- Sainz having to pit a third time but Leclerc not (prior to safety car) really reflects poorly on Sainz (unless he had issues) and makes him a really big underdog.
- Red Bull and Mercs are almost guaranteed to improve during the season. Ferrari haven't been able to do that for many years, so I think they'll need to leap out to a good start
- The Chinese lad looks like he is there on merit.
- Nobody throws good money after bad quite like McLaren.

Just watched the race as I wanted to enjoy watching Max have a hissy fit.

Mercedes pit stops though were awful by comparison. They've been worse than Red Bull for a while, but some of those were pathetic.

Also read an article that there is a rumour going around that Red Bull did not fill their cars up with enough fuel. Certainly it seems to be a design flaw or something that is common between both cars rather than reliability with the way both cars failed in similar ways at similar times. Red Bull at the time said on the radio they knew what it was and it wasn't reliability related.

I don't why fuel would cause a power steering failure at higher speeds.....then again I don't know how an F1 car works.

This article says the way the car behaved was exactly what would happen with this low fuel phenomenon.

This article denies the rumours, but they haven't said what has caused it, just that it wasn't a fuel pump issue.

It'll be interesting to see how it'll translate til next week. You'd back them to be fastest based on Bahrain with the amount of long straights in Saudi but if they were on or past the edge of getting the car to the finish line, relying on no safety car, they can't risk it in Saudi.

Unless some of their speed was related to less fuel and their gamble backfired. Hard to know unless they say directly.

this. was it engine mode or fuel levels that allowed them to run the way they did? It seems that the issue had to do with their upgrades not being tested in long run simulations? I wonder if they will be able to make changes.

It would also then suggest another reason why they didn't want Verstappen blasting it on the out laps.

Max is screwed if he has to fight a battle on two fronts. If Mercedes gets things together (I think they will) he's finished. His only hope is to get into a battle of mutually assured destruction and hope that luck play out into his favor in the end.

Unconfirmed reports of an attack in Jeddah?

FP1 results suggest another Charles v Max battle.
