Ewen Mckenzie resigns

Alan Jones is one person who has led destabilising campaigns on multiple Australian coaches. All week the SMH have poured fuel to the fire on ridiculous allegations. McKenzie's resignation had nothing to do with the performance of the rugby team and everything to do with off field issues.

I feel so bad for Ewen.

It all started with Beale, and then spiraled all out of control. And If I were him, I would've done the same. It was honourable of him to stay until the end of the Bledisloe, to see things through. It's a pity the players didn't back him up more, he deserved more than this.

To be an international coach has to be one of the toughest jobs there is. And off-field incidents cost him his job. It's another sad day for the rugby community.

The Australian media and team have hounded out a great coach. All for the sake of defending a sexist arsehole. What a poisonous job. If Australia take an early exit at the next WC, it's all they deserve.

Right or wrong....do not know but sure to come out in memoirs in due course.

One thing I do know is that if you cannot control and gain the utmost respect of the dressing room, you might as well give up as you will not be good enough to overcome that one aspect. Been proven many times......

True, but it's necessary that the dressing room come together with the coach. The dressing room, didn't appoint the coach, but the coach picked the guys to be in that dressing room, and this is how he's being treated. It's sickening!

Just read that Ewen McKenzie sent an email to Pulver at 10am this morning with his resignation attached. Pulver claims he tried to talk him out of it. You know someone like Beale , had he been in the ABs would have been banished long ago.

I actually feel sorry for Beale, this guy is getting the blame for a coach resigning when all he did was send an offensive text and wear the wrong shirt.

Agree absolutely!

I am afraid that that is where man management comes in.......if there are disruptive influences, they have to be corralled and disposed of in a very friendly manner rather than just sacking them.....the old give them enough rope come into play. Unfortunately, this is difficult if the disruptive, and I do NOT mean Beale here as have no idea, player is a talent, it is very difficult to do.

I would say that in the time he has been there, he should have built up the respect of the dressing room and disposed of the trouble makers but has he?

He obviously didn't intend this to happen . What is clear is that Beale is a disruptive influence on the team . And whoever is the next coach needs to be absolutely clear that discipline is paramount. He should assert his authority immediately and appoint a new captain.

Seriously?? An offensive text can result in a sexual harrassment lawsuit, hell it could even result in hatespeech/threat on a person's life/be the cause to be sent to jail. Beale will not get any sympathy from me, regardless of the outcome. His actions started a whole series of unnecessary speculations and the demise of 2 people's jobs.

Yeah... I don't feel sorry for Beale. Grateful for his work with the the Tahs this year, but his text was just beyond stupid and offensive...

Well I think you need these mavericks playing the game, the wallabies are becoming like the Pakistan cricket team full of unique talents that are ill disciplined but are never boring to watch or read about. The last thing we want is for all teams to be the same with every difficult player being forced to play in japan or the t14, bring back the 3 amigos I say they are exciting to watch. I actually don't care what the players are like off the field as long as they are exciting to watch on it, I realize I'm in the minority but as a adult I don't need to look at sport as role models.

Well the person in your avatar wasn't exactly a model citizen but he still gets my sympathy

Lol!

And as an adult you don't agree that there must be discipline and if things are wrong/immoral/offensive it should be swept under the rug?

I'm saying he must be sent into exile. I'm saying he must pay for his actions, just like Oscar Pistorius.

That's fair enough from a spectator's POV but if you were part of the coaching staff or players you might have develop another view very quickly.

I would hardly say Beale should be banished from rugby because of his texts, Savea tickled up his missus I believe but he is still playing.

Yeah, but your sympathy as well as mine is not because of his actions as being a bad role model or sniffing cocaine off a hooker's ass.

Our sympathy is because he was a great player and is now suffering from a terrible illness and fighting to stay alive.

He still had to pay for what he did, and Joost did, he got divorced and lost the lawsuit for custody over his kids. The same has to happen to Beale...

I actually admire Joost more for those actions, life is short.
With Beale he sent an offensive text that was no worse than what 99% of males have said to their mates about a woman at some point in their lives, Shane Warne should have been booted out of international cricket for his off field demeanour but what good would that have done to the fan or the sport.

Beale is 25 freaking years old. Is it not a bit ridiculous that a coach should be expected to make adults behave like adults?

The media hounds McKenzie for not having control of the squad, but they also hound him for dropping Beale. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

You're purposely diminishing the story. This wasn't about Beale sending a sexist text to friends about a woman. This was Beale sending a sexist text about his colleague to other colleagues. Even if she never found out, it still undermines her position in the squad, makes her into a joke. The fact that she found out adds embarrassment to the story.
