England vs Japan - 12/11/22

So im never i big hater of EJ and i really dont vocalise it on here that but but recently the selections are getting worse and more random, neglecting people who deserve it and giving chance to players in positions we dont need or player who dont really have a future. Not saying throw the kids in but damn willis, Freeman deserve a shot, marchant does.

Its just getting more and more annoying, i dont want us to lose but im starting get as annoyed as some other posters now

I attempted to play a bit of Devils advocate in terms of EJ for the Argentina game. Many of the senior plays basic skills and decision making was really poor can't really say that's EJ' fault.

I don't hate him, I just can't for the life of me understand him. I can generally work out what someone is trying to do, even if my opinions are different (and this is where "Eddie knows more about it than you do" is a legitimate argument.)

I have no idea what Eddie is trying to do. Completely baffled. I know that England's World Cup performance in 2023 could still be amazing, I just can't see how 'being largely shite for three years' is a tactic which leads to player and team development. I can't see how 'learning lessons from the 2019 WC semi final' is still a thing over three years later. (I have a postgraduate educational qualification, albeit not in rugby, so I'm allowed to claim a little knowledge in this field.)

So yeah, puzzled.

I didnt want experimental i just wanted a flanker on the flank and a 12 at 12. And maybe a Freeman, or Murley at 23?

I'm going to solve my frustration by tricking myself into thinking we are playing the following vs Japan : Genge, McGuigan, Heyes, Tizard, Itoje, Dombrandt, Willis, Billy, JVP, Smith, Murley, Manu, Marchant, Freeman, Arundell.

Now I'm in a better mood.

I gave up a long time ago with EJ's selections. Can't wait until after the WC. Until then I'll watch England resigned to the fact that we're in for another mediocre, disappointing performance and if we lose I shan't be bothered. England under Eddie Jones are not worth the emotional investment.

4 locks, 1 flanker, 3.5 centres and 3 back three players in the 23. Classic. At least we've got 1.5 scrum halves, I guess.

Honestly i like Tizzard, i dont mind sticking with Coles, Sinks needs time to regain form and hayes is better on bench to gain experience atm IMO. LCD over Mcguigan but he should be there. But thats the back line id like! Shame on Arundells injury and feel bad for the others as they deserve it.

Wonder who he will bring off for Manu and Slade. My guess is Manu on for porter at 60 min then Slade on for Manu so Faz doesnt have to come off

Basically the same Japan team that faced NZ 2 weeks ago, but with a stronger bench

11 <> 23 swap places
16 replaces Hino (who never came off the bench)
18 replaces Takeuchi (2 caps)
19 replaces Shimokawa (1 cap)
20 replaces Makisi (5 caps)

It's like they wanted to hide all the South Africans last game, and now they're back (11, 19, 20)

The way you guys talk your team down, you're getting my hopes up!

P.S. They changed the english spelling of the #3's name (formerly Koo) but he's the same guy

Also if the cap numbers all seem a bit low, remember Japan doesn't have a 6N etc. - they only get games in July & November

Interesting how the Japanese names use quite complex symbols whilst the non-Japanese use a longer list of basic symbols. I guess the non-Japanese are a simple phonetic representation, which would make sense.

You basically hit the nail on the head. The first (漢字) is little changed from traditional Chinese characters, the second (カタカナ) is almost exclusively used for onomatopoeia and loan words (and foreign names). There's another phonetic one (ひらがな) which is actually the most common but doesn't show up on the team list.

If english used the same system, all the latin/french/greek derived words would be in 漢字, all the core anglo-saxon words that pre-date 1066 would be in ひらがな, and things like avocado and zeitgeist would be in カタカナ (and as such you could spot their recent exotic origins from a mile away)

I have no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds very impressive!

Just to upset me more this week I read that the RFU have signed Umbro as their kit partner until 2028.

Guess I'll only be looking on eBay if I need any thing. Umbro is terrible quality.
Should try depop - I've picked up some really good classic jerseys on there.
