England Six Nations Squad 2025

I always think that Butt and Ojomoh are the wrong way around when I see them paired together - but it IS how they usually play together.
I like that we're giving 2 ICs a shot, even if I wouldn't have put Butt in there (SebAtkinson or Dingwall for me). Having said that, I do like seeing club combinations when there's nothing much in it selectorially
This. Just instinctively knowing what someone else is going to do is not something that can really be trained, particularly when it's off the cuff, it's something that comes with familiarity.

I play some team based video games and sometimes the best player doesn't make the best partner due to an inability to work seamlessly with another player.

I just don't see Butt as a international level player really
Agreed.
He's had a purple patch this year, and played to a level he'd never shown before. It feels like he's playing above himself, rather than having found a new gear (well, two new gears).
I'd love him to prove me wrong, of course.

When will Furbank be back?
V Italy, Dan to start with Jamie on bench.
Swap Earl and Hill.
Roebuck onto wing with Freeman to 13.

Ewwww

I'm hoping Langdon really stakes his case tomorrow

Was getting treatment on his knee before half time so I'm really hoping it's that
Hhmm not good either way, wasn't he getting treatment and showing real discomfort in one of The other games aswell...if it's Italy next, whilst I wouldn't want wholesale changes...maybe give him a time out.

Yeah, think B.Curry deserves another start tbh so an easy switch. Maybe even rest Tom entirely and go 5:3 so we can give another back some minutes

I'm interested to see what happens when Martin's back - does he stay on the bench or does Chessum shift to 6?

Want to see more of Willis, both in terms of giving him another start but also his performance - had a couple of good carries but I thought he looked underpowered in the contact area today
He only played 30ish mins and when England were under the cosh, so willing to give him the benefit of the doubt

Not sure what to think of that, to be honest.
Positive points were we stuck at it again but a lot of players not looking their best out there.
Sorry to see Tom Curry limp off but I do think Ben Curry deserves a start maybe, in his place ? Just to let him rest his clearly injured body.
Great kick by Fin Smith. Thank goodness Finn Russell didn't have his kicking boots on !
Pleased we won but we need to improve tactically, it's just not working kicking the ball down the oppositions throats all afternoon.

Definitely start Ben Curry, he played really well.

In successive weeks we've beaten Fra in the 6N for the first time since 2021 and Sco for the first time since 2020. And in the RWC the Boks were lauded for finding a way with their one point wins.

Shouldn't we be happy?

We do actually have the makings of a decent pack and I thought they (and Russell) won that for us in the second half yesterday.

The backs were poor and if that was playing to order then the coaches take the flak. But where are our guys cutting angles or popping up on the opposite wing? They just don't do it. IFW does. Genge clocked up twice as many metres as our starting wings combined. Sleightholme racked up 0 metres from 0 carries which is a damning indictment on both him and the tactics. Whatever the game plan you just can't be that passive.

And do we really expect the defence to be much better with a part time coach from the lower reaches of French D2?

He was very good. I'd only start one of him TC or Earl though. Willis at 8 and a big guy at 6 whether that's Chessum, CCS or Hill.
CCS had a bit of aggressive impact when he came on so that was good to see.

Id rest Tom Curry out of the match day squad for the next one. He's clearly carrying a ****le and no point breaking him when Ben Curry has looked very good.

I think Martin will come straight back in if he's fit ..which then leaves the dilemma for the back row.

Chessum at 6, Willis at 8 and Ben Curry at 7...

CCS and Earl off the bench is quite a bit of impact but I think SB likes Earls workrate and engine so I think he's reluctant to drop him.

Slades performance will be a worry though....all very well having his kicking ability but hes not lightning fast, he's not powerful and missing 5 from 12 tackles (and some were awful attempts) as the defensive leader is a shocker.

Our entire first half was one out to a forward. Run, ruck, box kick.

With those tactics, they won't become less passive. This is entirely on the coaches.

Very happy today, we won and that's all that matter today. Our backs seemed to be playing to a very strict gameplan and again I thought Slade was really poor.

Until we find a better 12 our backs are going to struggle at stages but that doesn't account for our constant kicking in certain areas of the pitch……but we won so I can't moan at tactics just worried me as we were kicking to some very good backs and struggled to contain them.

In the second half we did play some great strike players but it seems we are only allowed to at certain times or certain areas on the pitch. I want to see more of that.

For Italy, I only want to see minimal changes. Martin back in, Ben in as he's looked awesome but is drop earl him.

And please let's try a decent 12….oh wait we don't have any in the squad.
