England Six Nations squad 2022

Also they do make some good content. I did enjoy 10 England players getting stuck in a lift.

Are we expecting any additions or replacement to squad. Tuilgani isn't going to play again. Slade and Daly is a terrible partnership and we lack pace and size in the backs.
Saw big Joe scored a brace for bath. He looks like he has put some timber on and had a slow turning circle to begin with.! Would be very handy if we could get him to string a few games together and shed a few pounds. Not many 18 stone fast wingers who can catch in the NH

You never know, believe the medics said 10 days, still plenty of time to parachute him straight in to start and then drop him out again in the warmups :p

I don't think we will at this stage - Manu was an addition not a replacement for someone else, so not like we're now a man down

I did like the balance of the back three in the summer with Steward, Radwan and Cokanasiga, seemed to offer something different and would be good to test it out against Australia on tour but doubt we'll see it.

Would like to see Launchbury and Marler starting the Ireland game, also get rid of Simmonds from the bench as he can only really cover 8 and it means we're left in a hole if Curry goes down. Would prefer a Earl/Ludlam type who can cover 3 positions.

What do we think of Simmonds?
Firstly id say he is one of if not my favourite players for what he can do yet i really dont think he has stepped up to international rugby, yet also dont think replacing him with Earl or Ludlam would be any better.

Is his issue a systems thing as for Chiefs the squad arpund him plays to his strengths or is it because there is generally less space in international rugby, less gaps for him to use his pace

If he was replaced then who with?(id have him in the EPS but not sure he's fitting into Englands backrow atm, Cant say someone should be out without suggestions for who's in.

For me id say JWillis if he regains pre injury form. Not seen him play yet since back. But he can carry, hit and jackle. Is he an injury prone player or a player with bad look to get bad injuries?

With Simmonds, I really like his explosive speed. He almost seems to be better at making ground without a big run-up because he accelerates so quickly that defenders can get caught out. I'm not sure that alone is enough, but I could see the appeal of having someone like that receiving the ball close to the defensive line. It'll be interesting to see how he goes against Ireland's defence.

I'd love to see Willis get back after his injury; such a promising player. Barbeary is such a wrecking ball that I could see him being one to watch in the future... Maybe getting a bit close to the World Cup year to be bringing in completely new players, though? Summer is probably the last time

I think part of the reason Simmons has looked so bad is we are so used to just using our 8 to smash into the densest block of defenders and tie them in. Billy V in his prime did that well and Jones hasn't adapted his tactics to the fact that we can't rely on Billy V at 8 or Tuilagi at 12/13 to do that for us. He brings other players it to essentially fill the same role, which is largely to mask the fact we are otherwise awful at making space an manipulating defences. Without route 1 ball, we stagnate. It's very much like Wales with Roberts, once teams worked out how to stop him on the gain line without the whole defence getting sucked in, Wales attack suffered.

I think Simmonds can be a very good international. I think he, along with other England players, suffer from being selected to play an extremely basic gameplan that relies on brute strength that England simply don't have. We are trying to play the South African game but even more power based, and utterly failing to do so.

Our attacking strategy seems to have next to no part for running sleek lines, hitting shoulders or anything. It revolves entirely around crashball and kicks, that's it.

Not convinced Simmonds against the Irish D will be anything different than him looking very average, that's all that happened when Exe played Leinster and Exe actually have sizeable carriers.

I see Underhill is fit again, let's hope he doesn't get rushed back too soon. Although when fit and in form is one of the first names on the team sheet. A backrow of Underhill/Willis, dombrandt and Curry looks very good to me

Ludlow called up…..

Goodrick-Clarke also
Goodrick Clarke? Cant say i know enough about him but never heard his name in any England conversations. Is he young or playing really well?

And on Ludlam... i agree with yge message above.... sooo many better options

Dont get the Ludlow selection...just a total waste of a selection.

Goodricke Clarke is a good selection though. big powerful prop who carries.
