New Zealand police are investigating a "serious allegation" against up to four England rugby players after an alleged incident in a hotel room.

It allegedly occurred in a private room at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland early on Sunday morning after England's defeat to New Zealand's All Blacks. Auckland police have not confirmed the nature of the allegation.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) said the unnamed players were helping police with their enquiries.

Auckland City Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating the alleged incident, which was brought to the attention of police on Sunday evening. A RFU spokesman said in a statement: "The England rugby team has been informed by Auckland police that an allegation has been made against four members of the England playing squad. "No formal complaint has been made and we are co-operating with the police and their inquiries. "In the circumstances we cannot make any other comment."

Auckland police said investigating officers were receiving the "appropriate level of co-operation from the England rugby team management". The England squad are currently in New Zealand for a two-match series against the All Blacks.[/b]

£5 says Barkley is one of them. He's supposedly somewhat familiar with Police interviews.

Barkley, Tindall, Mears, Varndell.

I feel like we should open a book on who those being investigated are...

Yeah I gaurantee you it'll be Olly Barkley at the head of this and it'll involve hookers and a fair bit of Steinlager...

...oh yeah, hey guys! Back from Las Vegas where I won an award!

"Most British Guy" of BootyCon. Still number one, yo.

something involving women and constant room to room sexual activites...or atleast that's what was reported

What is it about sportsmen, hotel rooms, and "late night group activities". More importantly, why dont the female sports stars do it.

Maybe they do... but would you complain to the police about being 'abused' by Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova?

Are you saying that Olly Barkley bottled a hooker? Im 90% sure hookers are legal in New Zealand.

I read that female athletes (as in sprinters/ jumpers etc.) get up to a madness with the men cos there's so much testosterone bumping around the olympic village and places like that.

Hookers are legal. Its what you do to the hookers as a person that may be illegal.

Barkley is a total retard. End of story.

That said, looks like nothing much happened:

A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told the BBC that she went back to the room of one of the England rugby players early on Sunday morning.

She said that there had been some horseplay among some members of the squad: "I don't know what happened to any other girls but they [the players] were... probably just going round rooms.

"They'd roughly found out from their team mates who had brought a girl home or whatever. They were just having a fun time, just like any other guys would." [/b]

Maybe the PC brigade in the New Zealand law enforcement establishment getting their knickers in a twist? Wouldn't be surprised, theres so many ex-British coppers over there working for them now that it wouldn't be surprising if the obsession about "hate crimes" and "ethnic minority quotas" had caught on in the land down under...

looks like a storm in a teacup to me. of course i'll retract that statement if it turns out someone got raped, but it seems to be the typical nz demonisation of a touring team.

My money's on haskell or barkley if there's a chick involved, both have reputations. Haskell, as we all should know by now, tried to get into porn before becoming a rugby player (true story).

Sounds like f*** all to me. Me and most of my team-mates could have been arrested after every night out when we were players. Isnt that what rugby boys are meant to do?

I like it how the media are suddenly banding around the "rape" tag now, even though they have roughly bugger all new information other than "the boys got rowdy" and "one of them stole a duvet cover"...

If only Cipriani was on the tour, the report could have been:

'New Zealand police are investigating a "serious allegation" by a man in drag against an England rugby player after an alleged incident in a hotel room...'
