Carling joining England squad in a leadership mentoring role. Thoughts?

The dressing room's not listening to me and its all because I'm Australian. Wouldn't it help if I bought in a fine upstanding English chap who'd played a bit of rugger and has a nice line in self deprecation?

Much as I like Carling, he has no relevance to the modern game. I get that its not a coaching role, and there definitely is a leadership vacuum,. but that's not going to be solved by a few powerpoints from an ex captain who'd retired when most of his audience were barely out of nappies. Couple of weeks with the Marines might help more....

I could perhaps understand the odd session from a past great, but the reports are 2 days a week when in camp.

Part of the thinking simply seems to be because he's English to help understand the pride in the shirt, which suggests that Jones is struggling to connect a bit with the players. I am sceptical that he really has a clear plan on what he's doing at the moment, he just seems to be making it up on the hoof.

Agreed. I think it's quite patronising of Jones to bring in Carling. Leadership has got to come within the Group. Can't see how this will work and the players will end up resenting Jones for this.

Carling is prob there to help with pleasing all the his former England teammates who make up a sizeable amount of the pundits.

Be better off bringing in a Johnson or a dayglo type character, show them how to get a bit fired up.
If you're going for a more "hard work pride in the shirt" being wilko back

Bumface is too far removed from the game and is just a talking blazer these days

Carling probably gives a damn good corporate speaking event 1 hour rouse the masses speech on back to back grand slams. Probably works well with the team too, I'd question him spending longer than an afternoon (time to chat face to face) with them though. Who knows maybe one on one time with the supposed leaders of the squad might help rather than a sport psychologist whos never been leader of a successful international team. Probably be a waste of time though an Farrell will still come off as a petulant child when talking to the ref.

Fully expecting Haskell to be appointed as 'specialist in banter' next week. It's an odd appointment, more so is the wording that is used. It does sound like Jones has lost the dressing room in some of the quotes.

Trouble is johnno wouldn't touch the RFU again and Loz has a easy pundit job.

Outside of them not sure England have anyone like that Hill is in the setup already.

Apparently he's going to continue to be involved as a part time kicking coach.....

Is Jon Clarke going to be heading up the S&C? He has a purely RL background and, if so, its a massive ask for him to get to grips with a brand new sport and get us to be the fittest team at the RWC (isn't that what everyone always says they aspire to?).

I wish Eddie went full troll and just appointed McCaw or even better POC as head of leadership thingy.

The press reaction alone would be worth it

Wilko is the kicking coach

So how much does that paper over the cracks, and what do we do next week?

Farrell, Loz, Manu with Brown back at 15?

Shields and Slade have to go

Think we have to bring Brown back with Watson unavailable.

Moon and Williams to start?

I suspect we'll see the exact same team sheet minus injury.

Is that what you're hoping for or expecting? If hoping for then surely Shields out and a 7 option in, I'd hope for Ben Curry but Underhill's more likely. Also Daly doesn't deserve to start over May or Nowell off of today's form. Wouldn't mind seeing him at 13 if Manu's still out though.

Apparently EJ specifically named Shields as one of the players he was happiest with (along with Kruis and Wilson, who I agree with) so looks like we've got him for a while now

Not sure how you can be happy with Shields, I mean if one or two of his miracle offloads worked maybe. But he looked distinctly average to me as well as justbgiving the ball away.

Mind you out the starters only May and Nowell came away with credit in the bank.

Interesting thought I know it was clutch and stepping up to the face and the last decision is not clear cut. But did moving Farrell to 12 increase his defensive game he certainly seamed more stuck in than playing at 10 and made himself known way more than Te'o did.

Okay so I'm want to do a bit more in depth analysis of each player. Where do people get their stats from as the best place I've found is ESPN, but I'm not 100% on some of their stats.
