England EPS 2016/17 season.

Just realised that Brown is the only 15 in the 33 man squad yet there are 4 wings and 4 centres (including Farrell). Does this mean Jones is starting to look at Daly/Watson/Nowell as fullback options?

Possibly. Isn't Haley in the 45 man squad though?

Nowell would be my choice. As he showed today he has all the required attributes, and more.

Nowell changed my mind today. I had him as my fullback option, but today he showed how effective he is when he's allowed to roam off of his wing. His work rate is simply outstanding and I think at fullback it would be wasted, as he couldn't do that. I'd go for:
11. May
14. Nowell
15. Watson

23. Daly to cover 13, wing and 15

Manu down and looks like he will be out for a while.

Leg getting stuck in a nasty place by a Sarries 3 man tackle.

Why does everyone pronounce tuilagi as tuilangi? There is no n in it!

The same reason that one of the commentators is pronouncing the double "o" in Goode and that Austin Healey thinks that the number of preceding offences are relevant in the decision to award a penalty try. Maybe they could get some on air talent with a casual interest in rugby!

I went through a similar thought process watching the game yesterday. This thinking only works if he's going to be given the same kind of role with England that he is with Exeter. In the past, he has "roamed" in an England shirt, but not quite as extensively. His game today confirmed to me how good his feet are and how good a runner he is in traffic, both of which are useful attributes for a full back.

Didn't Tuilagi also get injured v Sarries in the playoffs last season or the season before?

Rokoduguni brought in as an injury replacement for Tuilagi. Seems odd to bring in a wing for a 12, and to now have 5 wingers and only 3 centres (that's including Faz).

33 squad
12 Farrell, T'eo
13 Joesph, Daly

45
12 Farrell, T'eo, Slade
13 Daly, Joesph, Marchant

Looks alright to me.

Had a drink and am very close to going on a Genge rant.

Just what do Mullan and Catt bring to the party damn it.
Experience?

To be fair to Nat Catt (who should be in the Saxons squad if there is such a thing); he was working his way ahead of Paul James for Bath and into England squads before that shoulder dislocation that cost him 2 years, and he has been in good form this season. Saxons form, but still, if Genge is considered unready to start (and Mako out), then I can see reasons for having NC learning systems and calls etc, whilst Genge gets (much needed) game-time.

Bath v Exeter, that game had nowell watson and roko. Roko scored a great try and looked dangerous but nowell was outstanding in defence saved at least 1 try veing scored maybe 2. Such a high workrate. Watson great timing in tackling under highballs and just looked strong, out of the 3 nowell and watson deserve it. Roko is 4th behind may imo. Anyone disagree? Roko in for injured tuilagi?... why if we already have 4 wingers?...

Clearly at least one of the "wingers" is under consideration as a FB.

Which is a great thing, IMO.

I agree with Rocco being 4th choice, it's when Yarde is considered etter than him I start getting annoyed.
Either way, this 33 man meet will want some time playing 2 teams, or just 2 backlines against each other, so would likely want 4 wings.
Manu is special, but never fit, and IIRC has never trained with Eddie; so you select him, knowing you can swap him out if broken, but don't build a game-plan around him.

After the Bath Exeter game I see what people mean about Roko's defence. Both of Short's tries, he was responsible for. The first he just didn't bother tackling him and the 2nd he was nowhere to be seen. His positioning is dire. Agree that's he's still better than Yarde though.
