He's very good, but needs some time in a good system to really take the next step up imo, I don't see how he gets that if he gets a Scotland cap.

Either he then stays at Warriors and stagnates, or goes to Scotland and stagnates

I meant more club wise tbh - if he gets capped by the SRU with the cap the way it is, it's a harder sell for an English club to pick him up - I just see him developing much better in the prem than playing for Edi or Glasgow

Or (wishful thinking) he gets capped by Scotland, Kinghorn is not seen as a genuine future 10 prospect and is moved back into the back three, and Smith moves to Edinburgh to play and develop in an attack-minded team who should be competing in the Champions Cup most seasons.

Let’s be real if he’s first choice 10 he will play regardless of EQP.

10 isn’t the place teams will skimp out on if he’s a starting premiership/international fly half prem clubs who need a starting 10 will want him.

NZ/Aus and the ongoing back and forth with Tonga/Fiji/Samoa, English footballers with African heritage playing for countries of their parents/grandparents or that period English cricket had a fair few South Africans in it.

Just have to rely on that players like Smith want to play for England and aren't afraid of the contest for a starting/squad spot.

It's been discussed in the other thread, but for me it's annoying that some people developed in England choose to go, but that's their choice. For me it's the way the SRU is targeting young players who aren't ready for international rugby just to cap them and tie them to Scotland. Granted they could wait 3 years to move again, but these players should not be forced to make such an important decision that will impact their careers at such a young age just so a greedy union that is failing to develop it's own young players can increase it's talent pool.

Ill be interested to see what happens with Iwan Stephens our young winger / full back. He's electric and potentially could be one hell of a player.

Hes in the England u20 squad, but his father was Colin Stephens the Wales fly half. I bet they're sniffing about him already.

I genuinely think there is a solution, if you have less than 2 grandparents from that country then you require 1 year residency meaning you have to show some commitment because your link is weaker.

Then fair play to him, i thought it was just 1 grandparent, its the 1 grandparent from a country youve never been yet you represent them with no commitment that gets me. Coupled with getting that kid at 20 when they are still developing because someone else might

But it looks like he isnt in the Scotland squad anyway.

I do actually believe the hype with the kid though going forward, still dont know anything defending.

Thats partly the reason that the hype is ok with me, we have Steward at FB so no matter what happens we are covered and not pinning all out hopes on this new lad but he might end up being 23 coming on to add in attack or tbh i could see steward on the wing knowing EJ, wouldnt be the first time.

Maybe it's the reaction to the derision aimed at them a few years ago (assuming they noticed my derision) for giving the "discovery" award to a player in his 5th or 6th full season, and only racking up his 2nd or 3rd number of starts that season (Will Evans)
