England 2021/22

Fair play to him. I tend to think of his England caps as energetic but not necessarily impactful; would be good to see where he is now, but positive media attention usually worsens your chances of getting picked under EJ!

Yeah, I'd probably have him as my bench option over Simmonds (especially with Simmonds missing the summer), covering the whole backrow

He's in the awkward situation (like Simmonds) where they're probably not big enough for international 8, but then are they better than the options we have at 7 as a dedicated openside?

Earl offers that different option to Curry etc in that he is a real attacking option. His pace and carrying, and he does have a very high tackle rate etc.

Horses for courses...good to have a squad with mixed varied options.

Agreed. I think he's an ideal bench option.

He might well be added to the squad after the play offs anyway.

Isiekwe, Earl, Slade and Malins give you such good cover on the bench. Rare that you can cover basically every position that well

See pack wise I'm leaning towards
4. Itoje
5. Hill
6. Lawes
7. Curry
8. Dombrandt

Bench
19. Chessum/Isiekwe
20. Earl
If it weren't for Ewels then I think that'd be our test pack this summer - depending on Hill's fitness, anyway
Ewels will likely be in the 19 shirt as it stands (or starting if Hill isn't)

I mean from a bench pov having a lock/6 is usually pretty big.

Tbh going forward I think Chessum and Tizard will be a partnership both seem to have the qualities to cover each other weaknesses.
Less so when Itoje is 100% starting though as he can move out, under normal cirumstances, you are right though.

Not if the much bigger kids come through and can do the same job...and theres some big locks coming through
