[COVID-19] General Discussion

Trump tried to ban 3M from sending supplies anywhere other than the US and 3M have refused. 10m masks are being produced in Singapore, for the Asian market, and Trump demanded they be sent to America instead.

America (the Trump administration) really are handling all of this terribly - not just domestically but on the world stage.

you cant make this stuff up, throw around suggestions medical staff might be stealing equipment (ignoring the fact they just change them so much more) and then refuse to answer a question whilst telling reporters to be nice
The Governor of New York, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, said the same thing a week before Trump.

"As fear over the new coronavirus in New York spreads faster than the outbreak, people have started to steal masks and other medical equipment from local hospitals, Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters Friday.

"Not just people taking a couple or three, I mean just actual thefts of those products," Cuomo said at a press conference from the state capital in Albany. "I've asked the state police to do an investigation, look at places that are selling masks, medical equipment, protective wear, feeding the anxiety."

Any particular reason why he is not being put through the ringer by the media for saying the same thing? @The_Blindside @Jabby

Because Cuomo is not the POTUS and blaming everyone but himself including the previous administration for his mishandling of this crisis even though he's been in office for the last 4 years. Trump's accusation was inferring medical staff were stealing the masks in his press briefing to distract pure and simple.

Are you going to defend Trump downplaying of the virus for months and wanting to open the country up by Easter and have packed churches? Or are you going to defend him closing the Pandemic office or standing by whilst it was closed down in the White House in 2018 and not replacing the key expertise who would have greatly assisted in preparing the USA for this pandemic. And then lying about it that he didn't know anything about it and it wasn't him even though it's his administration

Or turning down WHO test kits in February to wait for CDC made ones which turned out to be faulty and put the US totally behind testing.

But yes, you point out that Cuomo also said the same thing Trump did to point score at this time.

The 5G thing....apparently it's quite widespread. ******* idiots.

Which was the same as they said about Wifi, 3G & 4G.

When people say why do you need to study science in school, this **** is why.

Plenty of scientists are warning against it too.

Doubt it. Basic physics says so. Radio waves are non-ionising radiation. In order for a photon to destabilise an atom in some way, the energy of the photon must be high enough to overcome the bonds holding the atoms together. The energy of a photon is determined by the frequency of the EM radiation and crucially, it doesn't matter what the intensity is as only the energy of individual photons matter. If a photon does not contain enough energy, it may "excite" the particles it interacts with but nothing more. This will cause it to heat up slightly and is how microwaves cook food. Crucially this heating cannot happen without you noticing, it's just a plain old burning sensation and the same as what you feel when you stand out in sunlight (the cancerous stuff is from UV end of the spectrum).

5G has a higher frequency than previous types used that is true but that frequency is still non-ionising and a LONG way of being so. At most if you were bombarded with an extremely intense beam of radiowaves (far more than you would ever encounter) the end result is you would get hot. Claims phones caused cancer etc were completely wrong as it was a correlation/causation issue. Essentially people who smoked would keep their packets in the jacket pockets and their phones in their trouser pockets. People who didn't would sometimes keep their phones in jacket pockets. End result, the people more likely to keep their phones in their trouser pockets were also more likely to be smokers.

Now if someone didn't know this and just heard that 5G worked using a form of radiation, you could understand some concern at least. 5G causing a virus though is such a different level of brainfucked school dropout level of stupidity I can't even comprehend how someone with even the slightest understanding of physics or biology could believe it, let alone be violent based on that belief.

they way Cuomo said it it was other people coming in and stealing medical equipment or from distributors, trump specifically said "out the back door" which means staff selling/stealing them

the other difference is Cuomo was making a statement about an action he was actually taking, addressing an issue, trump tries to make it sound like he knows this stuff before anyone else and was telling Cuomo to do something about it, purely trying to make himself look good

Trump also said it in a way that gives him deniability if he's proven wrong, like everything he says. Comparing the two statements is ridiculous, one is straight to the point with a clear objective, the other is the manchild in the oval office trying to damage a governor who isn't afraid to criticise him with very heavily veiled rumours.

What is clear is that Cuomo actively cares about the people of New York and isn't focusing on politics in a time that is at the very least as difficult and impossible to prepare for as 9/11 was. Trump is deflecting, spreading misinformation and trying to please people because he has an election later this year, his focus isn't there and the States' preparation and lack of understanding of this virus shows it.
