[COVID-19] General Discussion

Seriously? Did any ******* politician keep their ******* messages about what they bloody did during the pandemic? I don't agree with it, but I can see that there is a very woolly argument that politicians would be afraid to say anything if they knew their messages would be read later. But how many of them have lied about it too? "Oh, I didn't delete my messages, they just disappeared from my phone by accident?" Rot starts from the top and poor work environments stem from poor leadership. Looking at the quality of our politicians it's no one the country's a ******* mess.

I got the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine yesterday. It's the fifth shot I've had since the epidemic broke out.

From the article "In the first nine months, the shots prevented more than 23m infections and 123,000 deaths in the UK" And they know this how? You can never know how many of anything you have prevented. How many concussions have been reduced by changes in head contact rules in rugby? How many crimes are prevented by police? There is no way to be sure. All these are is guesstimations and don't forget that many studies are funded by the same people with a vested interest in the outcome being a certain way.

Isn't it that the government basically gambled on the vaccine working and it did?
But the question is, Did it really work? Outside of the vulnerable populations did it make a difference? I know of multiple people that had more than one shot and still got COVID multiple times with symptoms that were the same as a common cold. Measles vaccines stop people from getting measles but this? Hard to say that it worked when people were getting still getting shot after shot and still getting COVID.

Or is the bigger and more cynical takeaway that politicians pushed questionable science (social distancing/masks/washing your groceries) and a rushed shot which at least in the US, don't know about the UK, made them tons of money and can't admit that they were wrong now or that they mislead people?

Measles doesn't mutate, making it infinitely easier to develop an effective vaccine.

Who's to say that the people who caught Covid and had cold symptoms wouldn't have been worse without the vaccine?

Fair enough about the measles and the non-mutation I will agree with you there.

Your point about the symptoms is exactly my point. There is absolutely no way to know whether people would or wouldn't have gotten COVID nor is it possible to know what their symptoms would have been like if they did or did not get the shot. I never had the shot, got COVID twice and basically had a cold. A co-worker of mine couldn't get enough shots, got COVID three times and was dog sick each time.

I'm just saying that it is not possible to know with any certainty what the effectiveness was or if it was effective in any quantifiable way. It is all conjecture being sold as fact.

Do you have degree and done the actual statistical research in this?

No? Okay shut up the experts who know what they are talking about are speaking.

I'll bite. Yes, you can't know 100% the exact numbers. However, by that logic almost every set of statistics is flawed. These statistics work because even if they are not 100%, they still give an accurate picture of the situation. Simple fact is that we need the data and we ignore the tiny margin of error because statistically it is irrelevant.
