[COVID-19] General Discussion

Not the biggest surprised it would eventually happen wonders if it will change any dates.
I watched the briefing for the first time in a while today. Hancock wouldn't even have addressed the point had he not been prompted to do so by Laura Kuenssberg and a Mail journalist. His answer was to brush it off as another supply chain blip in a supply chain that is in a constant state of flux. When pushed by a further question regarding what this means for the road map for unlocking, he simply said that we are still on target to meet the self imposed deadline to offer everyone eligible a vaccination.

The main announcement was that all over 50s are now eligible to book a vaccine and that the next step will be to chase everyone eligible who hasn't yet accepted a vaccination before moving on to the 40-49 year olds. It seems convenient that this strategy will result in a reduction in the number of the vaccines needing to be administered to hit targets.

Yeah, I feel like we.shouldn't have lost more than a week's worth of vaccinating to this... 331 vaccines were administered last Sunday, ******* joke.
Honestly with the supply issues everyone (but India) is inevitably facing this felt like a tactic to deal with that.

Just having a look at the numbers...
Really shows how low the flu season has been this year - due to lockdown and social distancing.
Take out covid, and there's been next to no winter surge. Take out covid, and 9 weeks worth of 2021 has seen 52,266 fewer deaths than the 5-year average.

Well just had the jab, got to say it was a very slick operation. In and out in less than 20 minutes. Can see how they are getting through so many. Feel a bit light headed now going to have a cup of tea and some homemade cheesecake and wait for the rugby to start.

I've heard different things and read a lot of official/non-official sources as well,so absolutely agree with this article. With everything that Alexei said

"Europeans or Americans have not lived through bad times like the 90s in Russia," the demographer points out. "It was worse than the Great Depression in America. In comparison to those times, which Russians still remember, this Covid crisis is nothing."
And that one is SO true..but only Russians will understand this last phrase I think

Feel a bit light headed
My mum had the same feeling after a jab.I'd also recommend you to check your body's temperature now because you may have a fever in the evening/during the night

No all good now. Possibly a bit of adrenalin getting the jab done. Had a few beers watching the rugby feeling great now

Which means we are due a big surge in flu cases this winter. :(.
do you feel peoples personal hygiene is generally better? i feel lots of people just upping the game with basic stuff we all should have been doing before will help that a lot, i think even after mask mandates drop i'll be wearing them when i have a cold and probably always on public transport

Defo mine is in terms of hand washing since last year and putting hand-gel on.
Mask wearing will be with us for the forseeable future I think. When I got a cough pre pandemic it would take 3 weeks to get over it.

But yes, like SE Asian economies there'll be peeps I am sure who'll continue to wear them - like a comfort blanket. But also those who'll refuse after having their vaccines because they find them uncomfortable or no longer see the point.

Personally I don't think it's that big a sacrifice to continue wearing masks where needed indoors when in close proximity to peeps.

The other thing is pollution when our and about for peeps walking and breathing in. Traffic fumes near busy roads. Even if it is the perception to filter out harmful particles in the air.
