These two guys are hilarious with thier quirky comments, know their rugby very well and entertain viewers at the same time!

Ps. this says alot...coming from a South African supporter

Jonathan Davies is great for a real match, but I feel the jokes would run their course pretty soon.
Hugh Bladen would be great, then again, anything is better than Ian Robertson.

Hugh Bladen??? What the hell is wrong with you guys??? I'm full-on South African and I'll even tell you that he sucks! It has to be the two Aussie commentators! They make me laugh all the time, I love listening to those guys. When does Hugh Bladen ever crack a joke or something like that? He's the lamest commentator ever!

Thats the point he is a good commentator, hes not biased, he calls the game right gets the players name right nearly every time. It actually seems like he is watching the same game. The Aussie commentators might be good entertainment they are poor commentators, I much prefer the south africans when it comes to commentating.

This seems interesting.

It's like people would rather have a commentator who cracks jokes constantly, goes off topic and is blatently bias, over commentators who are professional, knowledgable, well spoken and unbias. It seems like people would rather have a cheap laugh than a quality game.

Has anyone who has jumped on the "we love Aus commentators" actually thought about how their commentation would work in a game? It would be funny for the first week or so, but eventually it would get very old, very quickly. Smackdown vs Raw was a result of this. I'd rather listen to well informed, professional commentators who know the game well and know what they're talking about on every set piece, player and team, than the rubbish commentators that are being elected now. Haden is a very high quality commentator who knows the game well. So does Nisbett. If I wanted a rubbish commentator who cracks jokes but is otherwise usless, I'd have nominated Murry Mexted from the start.

Would it be possible to have commentary that's based upon the game stats, do you think? For instance, at any given point in the game the commentator could say "The five handling errors that Saracens have produced so far have gifted Northampton possession" or something similar for territory, tries scored, penalties?

Yeah thats what i was after, commentary that is dependent on the statistics of the match and also where the players are on the field, so they could say "Ma'a Nonu is standing very deep, this could be an attacking opportunity for Australia" or "Pierre Spies is lining up inside his flyhalf, they could be drawing in defenders to go wide wide"

If you had commentary that changed based on what happened in the game (and not random comments about nothing) then it wouldn't get old as quickly

Are you retarded? Hugh Bladen makes tons of mistakes! Kairns and Clarke are both very high-quality commentators who know the game well. Just because they are funny doesn't mean they don't know the game. At least they are honest unlike Hugh Bladen who makes out like evrey player on the pitch is the best player in the world. If you prefer the South African commentators you are obviously a very very dull person to be around. When a player makes a cock-up I love hearing the Aussies chirping him unlike Hugh Bladen who will just act like it didn't happen. It annoys the **** out of me. And I'll never forget this one time last year during the Currie Cup, I can't remember which game it was (It involved the Bulls), the guy threw a forward pass and Hugh's like "You want to get the ball to go backwards"! No **** Hugh! Really, this guy is the biggest stater of the obvious. I absolutely hate his commentary and actually every other South African commentator, especially Skinstad and Stransky.

Call someone retarded on this forum again and you'll get your marching orders. You can make your point, but apologise for that please.

I won't say that again but I'm not apologising

Don't worry, I don't need an apology, being called dull and a retard has been some of the more pathetic insults I've had on the forum. It seems however that a personal insult has been fired at me, without any real justification, and furthermore, you feel you are justified in not apologising. Your welcome to your opinion on how bland Bladen's rugby commentating is however I, as well as many other posters find him informative and generally more knowledgeable. If the "He slipped on a banana peel" type commentary amuses you, that's up to you, I won't pretend I'm not surprised.<O:p</O:p

Are you getting clarkey mixed up with marto? cause clarkey is the boring one that trys to be serious, but doesn't know much about the game?

He seems to be a guy who likes funny comments every few seconds in a game and isn't interested in factual and incisive commentary. A silly "Who draws the crowd and plays so well? Oh baby it's the Giteau man!" would probably make his day even after he'd heard it 50 times.

CAI I still think that you're actually taking about Marto... Greg Clarke is the softly spoken "Father" of the commentary team here in Oz.

Yeah, might be. I just know that some of the guys from over there are loud mouth jokers spouting hyperbole. If Clarke isn't then I have no problem with him at all.

I have no problem with jokes during a real match, but over and over again in a game would make it very tempting to drop kick the console.
Commentators telling the stats and talking about the match itself would suit the game better, and make it less aggravating.
