Cockerill Bans Tigers From Twitter

Wouldn't be too bad if the club themselves actually said anything about injuries, contract extentions, signings...

There is/was a Sale one run by a fan that was posting rumours (which 9 times out of 10 turned out to be true) weeks before it was announced on the official site, and Sale just through a ***** fit because they were using the logo in the background, and used the words "Sale" and "Sharks" together.
Which was pants as it was where I/most fans were getting news from, as the site is terrible at keeping everyone up to date (with the exception of the 10day signing spree)

I personally don't see whats wrong with it ... its a way to interact with fans. Fans want to know whats going on so they should know. People who pay good money to watch games should be entitled to know the extent on injuries etc.

While I was in Southampton the local paper tried to stop Southampton FC using twitter as it meant that thier followers got the exclusive before the paper could print it.

Booo ... Southampton

I don't get it- He's said he hurt his ankle. Why is that any different from tellnig us he's at his nans for Sunday roast? A bit extreme if you ask me. Mind you, we wouldn't lose a lot if the Ospreys stopped players tweeting. In fact, the world would just be free of Cai Griffsh posting '@xGarryOwenx @SonnyToiParker @Basil15 U bois online tonite?' every fifteen minutes.

That, and Sonny Parker unveiled the new Ospreys training kit before it was realised on Twitter. That's surely a bit worse?

The issue is that the guy was tweeting misleading things that were not true (e.g. out for 3 months); when it may not be true. Then that'll come back to the Tigers franchise with people saying they were misinformed, which then devaluates any other information the franchise or the players put out. Simplz

Yes, smart move. Because his job and all the players aren't supported by loyal fans who spend a **** load going to their games and watching it on the television.

/end sarcasm.

Seriously, the stupidest thing you can do is alienate your fans, will I have never used Twitter or these social networking sites, it brings the fans closer to the club and players.

Saw Cai Griffiths in Penarth the other day (random place to see him too, bit of a treck from Ospreylia!) and holy crap that guy is a chav ! Dodgy tracksuit and all...

How in the hell can Tigers have a healthy team atmosphere if they treat their players and staff like five year olds. This is something more akin to a prison camp than a rugby club.

Teams like Saints and Saracens can trust their players to tweet and facebook responsibly. They understand the blatant contradiction in what clubs and fans want from their players: to be professional and focused on their goals yet also be "normal, down to earth people". You can't have both.
