Celtic League Thread 05/06

shut up now - the scarlets were the better team and perhaps should have won by a lager scoreline

Not using this as an excuse but it's beyond me how those terrible twins are allowed to ref Celtic league matches, think they've given one of the clowns a HEC match next weekend as well, thankfully we're playing a Scottish team so that rules him out. When you've got refs like this incapable of seeing forward passes or having an awareness of the offside rule then you know you're in trouble.

Edinburgh lost by one point today.

The ref was diabolical and that's why Edinburgh lost. Binned Hewitt for nothing and when the munster prop tripped Leonelli on the way to the ball he pretended he didn't see it untill the touch judge brought it to his attention. Diabolical is the only word. The Munster fans were a laugh though.

4 minutes in and D'arse waltzes through the Scarlets' defence for the opening try. Your boys are in for a long night Lora.

Nah...they'll be 50points down in the last play but Lora'll believe they can still win![/b]

Gone quiet now have we?

its the same for both teams - if a ref is bad it effects both team so therefore offers not tangable advantage - and as ive said the scarlets played quite a bit better

Oh no trust me. There were Munster players handling in the ruck, holding on etc and went completley un-noticed. Munster won on a couple of dodgey penalties and Edinburgh weren't given advantages when they would've resulted in the try.

What they hell's Llanelli got to do with this?

The most obvious thing with Changeling is how much he's influenced by the crowd, was quite keen to let forward passes go, then hears the crowd reaction and blows the whistle. His ineptitude just keeps increasing and one of these days he's going to get a higher profile game and start screwing up more important games.

But you're right about him today he was as bad for both teams, needs to get the chop though.

One of the terrible twins, Dickson doesn't seem to be too bad, although by comparison that's not saying much, just doesn't seem to have fecked up as many matches as the twins.

Bad reffing isn't just confined to the Scots, look at Shitehouse in Wales and that clown who the IRFU let ref the Leinster Munster match last Saturday. Crazy stuff. Now the 6N is coming up some of the SH refs will probably take on some CL games like they did last year, can only be a good thing.

Well in the Scottish Colts leagues I've only had one good ref (who actually sin binned me) and it's the same for 1st XV club sides.

I think it's something that seriously needs to be looked at, the Celtic League is crying out for decent marketing and a proper sponsor yet when potential backers see reffing standards overly influencing the games it'll put them off, just look at the English Premiership or the Top14 and you can see how far ahead they are in terms of having decent refs, yes there's people who'll whinge about some in the Premiership but I'd gladly have the likes of White, Spreadbury, Pearson, Jutdge, Darrière etc. compared to the twins, shitehouse, mckay.

I agree one hundred percent with you there. Ironic that the refs are sponsored by specsavers though.

Surley a company like the Bank of Scotland who, are the second biggest Bank in Scotland, has a decent reach in Ireland aswell (don't know about Wales) would have an interest in such sponsorship? I'm not saying they ARE interested, merely using them as an example.

The Celtic League sides are seemingly improving every year and the quality of the games has increased dramatically but yes, decent marketing is needed.

I don't get how the sponsorship hasn't been sorted by now in all honesty, brutal reffing aside.

I don't know whether there'd be a conflict of interest with Bank of Scotland what with them sponsoring Leinster, probably would rule them out.

As the ad says on the Celtic League website there'd be massive advertising for the sponsors especially with the coverage being terrestrial in Ireland and Wales, not sure if Setanta Scotland is available on terrestrial, don't think so.

I seriously thought it would have been sorted 2 seasons ago when Llanelli and Ulster met in the winner takes all clash on the final day. Chance missed there as last season was nowhere near as exciting but this season has much improved on that so the powers that be need to act on it now while the interest is there.

Setanta scotland only shows football. That's available on freeview but Setanta Ireland (which shows the rugby) isn't. It's only available to those with digital TV. It is a farce that it's not been sorted but I could imagine there is alot of companies that it would appeal to.

you'd think the CL would have multiple sponsors like the UEFA Champions League does if they can't find a single large sponsor to do it all.

Think the people running the Celtic League need to take a long hard look at themselves, this sponsorship has been left on the back burner for far too long, I mean for **** sake how long has this ad been on the CL Website - Sponsorship

Cardiff Blues v. Edinburgh at Arms Park this weekend.

13 Phil Godman
12 Matt Dey
11 Simon Webster

10 Duncan Hodge
9 Rory Lawson CAPTAIN

1 Allan Jacobsen
