Brive - Scarlets (08/04/2012, 20:15)

Rhodri Jones is 21 and has been called up to the Wales squad, is he really third choice?

After doing some digging I've found he's 20, we're both wrong:p. But yeah, we should have done better there, not just saying excuses, just sayin'...

We didn't do well enough, especially in the scrums, Peter Edwards(who is at most third choice) got shoved around all day by a young prop. Guess that's what happens with a man who only becomes professional at about 29. Don't know what was up with Matthew Rees' throwing either, Owens did better but our line out wasn't good enough that day. Stephen Jones' kicking was awful too.

As for being 3rd choice, well Iestyn and Rhys Thomas are first choice normally, with Phil John and Deacon Manu next. Not saying he isn't better than these, but they usually get more chances than him.

Edit: Hadn't realised Cymro had already pointed out Rhodri's age. Sorry.

Matthew Rees didn't have his best game, but I'd still take him over Bennett or Hibbard although Ken should probably be first-choice for both Scarlets and Wales right now- he made a big impact when he came on. As did Priestland, as I've beent rying to deny it for so lnog, but Stephen really is over the hill and was pretty dire on Saturday, and it wasn't just his goal kicking that made me think this. It's sad to see him throw a bad pass or miss from straight in front of the posts and just think "This isn't the Stephen I know and love". Here's hoping he has a final few big performances in him before he hangs up his boots.

Yup. Although it was worrying to hear Priestland's response to questions about his knee after the game. He just replied with 'No comment' which leads me to believe that he's still having plenty of problems. If he can't get it sorted then there's every chance he'll need the summer off to make sure it's right for next season, and that would be a blow for Wales.
