Boxing Thread

What i find interesting about this fight is that this is a rare case where the better boxer Knows, capital k, that if they were to put them both in a room and lock the door, McG could kill him, literally, in less than 5 minutes. Wonder if that is affecting Mayweather head. It shouldn't, but you never know.

Of course it doesn't, Jesus Christ.
The amount of people that say dumb **** like this is ridiculous. It's a bloody SPORT.
You think scrumhalves go out onto the pitch and look at the opposition backrow and think "wow if you locked us two in a room together he would kill me".

Quite a silly analogy from you tbh. Rugby players number one objective is not to hurt their opponents.

I'm not convinced Macgregor would beat him in a phone box.
Macgregor looks like a show pony.
I've seen plenty of MMA fighters and Muay Thai boys get their clocks cleaned by good boxers going toe to toe.
Boxers know how to throw an elbow, or a knee or a head butt. They just don't do it in the ring.

Floyd is a rare talent, he can fight on the inside as well as the outside, he just chooses not to when he doesn't need to, he's got a good chin, he's the consummate pugilist.
Unfortunately he is also an utterly loathsome little toad.
The only question is whether Macgregor has enough stamina and chin to test the old champ and see if he is going to the well one too many times.

And boxing isn't a street fight so what would happen outside the ring has literally no baring on what happens inside.
It actually started as a way to "civilize" street fighting, a way to get some sort of ground ground rules.
Again, the intention of rugby is and should never be to hurt your opponent. You cannot say the same about boxing, present nor past.

PS: we are getting no where and going off topic. I'm out.

Oh no, I just read this...
The Mayweather vs numpty fight is scheduled for Saturday, August 26
We have another full month of their hideous circus to avoid before they start a contest in earnest.
I'm over it already.
Please kill each other and do the world a favour.

AJ v Klitschko II isn't going to happen. Happy retirement Wlad.

Yeah, Klitschko was ancient when he fought Joshua and he fought a damn good fight, he earned his money and he earned the respect of boxing enthusiasts for a career where he showed himself to be a quality fighter.
It's hard to believe he stepped in the ring with both Lennox lewis and Anthony Joshua.
He was around a long time.

Don't think he fought Lewis. That was his brother Vitali.

Watching the embedded series prior to this fight (I couldn't stand the bias in All Access) is really making me like McGregor. You can tell how motivated he is, that he is a genuinely decent man in his interactions with his son and that his press work is all a show. Floyd on the other hand is absolutely classless, unfortunately he'll get away with it but I'd love to see McGregor put him down for 10.

Pretty much how I feel about him too: take him away from the general public/cameras and he's, by all accounts, a great guy.
Still want him to lose in embarrassing fashion, mind. Nip this whole boxing farce in the bud - He's started saying he wants to do both professional boxing and MMA at the same time. We really don't need him holding up the LW division of the UFC anymore. Still harping on about how he's the FW champ even though he's not fought there since 2015

Easiest money Mayweather will ever make. They're both boxers in the same way that Mauro Bergamasco and Aaron Smith are both scrum halves.

Probably more similar to saying Brownlee and Farah both run 10ks professionally

If Brownlee was allowed to try to kick Farah and break his leg! I have to admit that I'm really hyped for this now, McGregor has a chance (albeit minute) to beat the best p4p MMA fighter and boxer of a generation within two years, if he pulls off the impossible he'll instantly become this country's greatest ever sportsperson (not that that would be a huge positive personally, I prefer BOD, Harrington, McIlroy and Keane) and be among the best in all fight sports.

Of course boxing is an art and McGregor won't have the head movement or footwork to survive 12 rounds but he has enough power in that left to knock anyone his size out, never mind a 40y/o giving him 20lbs, who is cocky, weaker, slower and hasn't fought in two years. Big advantage Chris Brown but there's enough of a chance of an upset to get everyone watching!

Lol Paddy Power getting **** for endorsing Mayweather.
I mean i could understand if it was about endorsing a guy who beat his wife etc.

But nope the majoirty seems to be because they are going against the irish guy.... and therefore against Ireland...

McGregor's power is massively overrated, It's his speed and accuracy that's other worldly in MMA. You look at the Alvarez fight and see how every shot lands perfectly right on the button before Eddie even knows what's happening.
Aldo got KOd cold but that was a full force McGregor punch combined with Aldo's head moving full force into the shot. Vast majority are TKOs/the ref stepping in. If McGregor really hit that hard then he'd have KOd Diaz early in both fights with the amount of shots he landed, regardless of Diaz' granite chin. Think McGregor learned that as Well, after the first Diaz fight (not to buy into his own hype) which is why he was much more reserved in Diaz 2 and Alvarez.

Also Conor had no issue knocking women about when he was younger, in Kavanagh's book he said Conor floored Aisling Daly and Kavanagh put a beat down on McGregor to say that that behaviour isn't acceptable in his gym.
