Boudjelal issues ultimatum to test players

Football is more popular, greater fan base/population-> more revenue for the clubs.
Rugby doesn't have that, so private investors are needed.

Private owners works quite well in the NHL.

Adjust the share based on fan base then. The relative size of the sports also mean that Rugby clubs do not need as much revenue.

The bigger English clubs all have average attendances that match some Bundesliga clubs anyway.
Granted - clubs like Newcastle would struggle, but there are plenty who I'd imagine could make it work very well.

Exactement.............what exactly has he done to get everyone in the world (outside France) ****** off at him.....taken a club of good repute that has seen too many bad days, invested and spent years working and financing it to bring it not only to a profitable secure future and pre-eminence that others can only dream about.

So he has a rant as a business man that his business assets are "stolen" from him from time to time without the slightest degree of compensation being proffered under an edict that is not exactly law in his own country?

So what...........wake up and smell the roses of success and stop belly aching for those rosy days of amateurism that died (were killed by the Kiwis) years ago......................

This is the only part I have a problem with regarding Boudjellal. Habana and Botha are Springbok players. They were Springbok players when he signed them. IE it was part of the deal. If he didn't allow for that fact and adjusted his offer accordingly then he only has himself to blame for poor a business decision if that is the way he wants us looking at it. Maybe a lot gets lost in translation but if he is indeed implying that he is close to not paying his staff and/or reneging on contracts he put forward, that's just someone I wouldn't have a lot of respect for.

It is not in the least jealousy. At least not from my part. I can assure you that much. What it is for me is that test players from my country are being bullied IMO. It has been done by club owners to test players from 'smaller' nations and shame on me for not getting as worked up about that as when it happens closer to home but it something that can potentially becoe an issue.

Clubs should be non-profit associations, run by their own members.
The Greenbay Packers setup? That sounds amazing. I wish it could be feasible in SA. But here only the very rich have the kind of spare cash to make any effecctive sort of contribution but then we are back to private ownership ala Johan Rupert owning Saracens etc.

here we go again another report from outside France by experts just gone through Rugbyrama (midol) the french rugby paper and web site nothing mentioned once again the same for L'equipe???????? This once again is pure media hype by people who are second guessing, no toys, no prams, no money, some of these threads are becoming like "Womens Own" please please do not believe all you read especially sports 24 and walesonline, or have moved to Toulon as they now know everything about Boudjellal and Toulon.

Look, I agree that Sport24 isn't always on the ball when it comes to articles, but they have been hard at work at getting new information from reliable sources. Whether this report is believable or not, it's not just Sport24 which has had an article about this in SA.

As this article is directly aimed at 2 Springboks, you have to understand that this type of story will get a reaction, especially from South Africans, outside of France.

When I saw this article the first time, my initial thinking was: "Great!! now some of our stars can return to our shores especially with the World Cup around the corner"

some more of my infamous...common sense, tingling. Good post (and btw I love your username :p of course I would've preferred you used a true, serious name like some ppl do, like some 15 yo gamer's, you know, Obscure Dragonfly or smt...).
I say it's a good post because it's very lucid. We are indeed, the fans and the actual contingent in the works, still at the very Genesis (the band with Peter Gabriel) and foundations level of world wide, international Rugby. We're still figuring out how to play with the rules, finding plot holes, realizing some stuff just doesn't make sense. Just like how a sport, say Rugby, evolved with its in-game rules overtime; all the rules weren't set in stone from Day 1, it took generations to slowly, gradually, progressively, bit by bit, gradually, one step at a time, progressively establish the rules of the game so everything would be as universally plausible and logical as possible..uhm...
alright that's it, who's up for a Rap battle ? Plausible and logical as possible, being gullible is horrible, yeeah, you can't touch me raht now !

Lol I should've known better and just called myself Rugby Being. Much more sensible and acceptable. Actually that one just looks like I'm supposed to say something after Being, like, Rugby being a dick again, or something.
I think I know what you're saying. We're just going through the initial stages of this new change and it's going to take a veeery long time to get used to/work out. I don't agree with what Boujelly is doing cos I'm all for the spirit of the game and all that but he's ahead of the curve when it comes to professionalism. I think we can only hope that the on field sportsmanship that rugby is renowned for remains, but whatever happens off the field is purely business and more clubs are going to have to get with it. If Boujelly really finds the absence of test players detrimental to Toulon then he should write it into their contracts, but then they probably wouldn't have signed.

turning down a million big ones...either Boudjellal has absolutely ridiculous fellatio skills, the likes of which have rarely ever been seen in the history of human sexuality, or he's...well I don't know tbh, but something is obviously fishy about this. When he said "I'm going to make Giteau an offer he won't refuse"; "I'll talk to Giteau during the weekend", it's not like he invited him to the hard rock caffé and they had a really nice steak and danced a little and he paid for the bill. Surely those "talks" are very substantial, consistent ones. A player needs to be shown "the goods". No, I'm not suggesting Boudjellal showed him his bra...

Look guys do not want to keep repeating myself but this is Boudjellal through and through the Boks will be paid and everything will return to normal after they beat Brive this weekend ( hopefully for all at Toulon) he does this all the time he has threatened to sue everyone from the LNR, FFR, most of the Presidents of all the TOP 14 clubs etc etc, please do not worry he is excellent entertainment value but rarely does he follow up his mouth....

what do you reckon he offered Giteau so that he'd turn down A MILLION and end his career in the Var ?

not sure, not quite up to speed with the Giteau thing as i have been at training all day and just got back, but i have my doubts about the million offer from Racing, first it was Tales then a Million why did he not go straight to Giteau, and basically Giteau has no competition at Toulon the 10 spot is his really, if he wants it. I should think he's on pretty good cash anyways, so who knows but i think there is an awful lot of media hype in there and never trust the media or agents, they only look after themselves first!!!!!!!!! So if they beat Brive all will fall back into place, until obviously the following week when a certain Montypellier comes to La Rade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for another serious beating, naturally...gotta stay consistent
Yeah but whether it really was a mil or not, not important it must've been tons regardless, and the salary cap thing they say it's really strict and monitored and all but just what could he have possibly proposed Giteau for him to all of a sudden go "I'm staying !! So glad to end my career here in Toulon..", what cards does a Boudjellal have to play ? Giteau immediately agreed and the rumor has lasted maybe a couple of weeks, tops. Now it's buried. That's some serious persuasion right there.

And this is why Steffon Armitage mustn't be considered for england unless he plays in England . Don't want idiots like this ruining international rugby all over the world ;) just in France will do fine

Has anyone noticed its now Friday and no more comments from our President Boudjellal, cause they have an away match to prepare against Brive tonight, surely if he was serious with his statements at the begining of the week he would have followed up with more!!!! as i have said along Boudjellal Bullsh**, but here we are used to it and it happens all the time!!!!!!

Lol I was talking about the issues with players not playing in England playing for England . Your league is full of foreigners and that's why your national team is quite frankly rubbish
