Berrick Barnes Inquires About Use Of Boxing Headgear

I said septics ...not skeptics apologies.
Well I have honestly never seen a guy on my team get concussed while wearing a a scrumhat .. as opposed to 5 or six others this season who did so without one. Coincedence possibly but I really feel its too much to ignore.

Ive seen plenty of guys get koed in headgear. Ive even been laid out while wearing it.
My overprotective mother bought me a hideous black white and yellow number and i didnt have the heart to tell her that there was no way i was wearing that monstrosity. First ever game wearing it i was going for a pilfer and woke up face down in the dirt. Never wore headgear again.

You see! There is some very clear and obvious evidence that headgear actually causes concussion.

Actually 3cm would probably give huge competitive edge...

Hey, watch it! Poorly made paint drawings are my thing!

American Football players get a lot of concussion. i think players make tackles thinking they are safe, when in fact they are not. leave the padding off, and leave players to actually look after themselves rather than relying on padding to protect them--- because a lot of evidence suggests that more head padding = even more injuries.

Thats just my opinion, though.

I guess concussion is never going to be completely eliminated in contact sports, and I agree that better technique in making a tackle probably is better protection against concussion, than increased padding, but i'm not sure what else can be done other than remodel the head gear to protect the player when they are tackled.

... I don't think rugby union, in it's current format, would suit the types of protective gear that the american footballers wear, as union is generally faster, with less breaks/stoppages ... the players would over heat quicker if they had all that gear on

If it's really that bad then maybe he should give the game up. It'd be better for him in the long run.

I got elbowed in the mouth at training by the f**king halfback. ended up with concussion, but gave the three week stand down period a miss :p

He should have taken off for the year earlier, suffering problems like that is scary as hell. Both he and TPN seem to be killing themselves with head knocks
