Don't think they classify as beer (probably more as lager but still)
but for plain beer, I like Jupiler or Stella Artois best, Dislike Maes, never felt the need to taste Heineken since I once saw an old cartoon about it that summarized everyone's opinion on it (at elast the person I heard that were airing their opinion on heineken)

I also like the taste of cold Duvel (which means devil, but it only has 8.5%), I used to take bets as to whether I could down a glass in one go (they're pretty hard to drink in one go, there's one pub somwehere in flanders that offers tons of money if you can drink ten duvels in an hour, no one has succeeded so far) which enabled me to be pretty happy the entire evening on only one drink, since it goes straight to my head.

I also like lieftmans, although it's a damn shame it's hard to get from tap nowadays. It's cherrybeer, so 'girly beer' what guys here call lemonade ^o) But it has a good taste, bit bitter and with a hint of sweet cherries

I think that devils beer has one at 8° and one a 12 ... Just a bit too strong (not for alchool but just the taste)



Anyone tried the Tcheque (Czek or what ever) beer called Staropramen ? quite nice one but only 4°.

Belgian Beers are great! Don't complain about 8.0, though. In my state all domestic beer can have no higher alchohal content than 3.2. Seriously...how gay is that? So, you have to go to a liquer store to get imported beers and micro-brews.
My first time in Belgium I was drastically underpreparred for the strength of Duvel. Wow, I got drunk.

Ended up in hospital with severe abdominal pains 3 weeks ago, so I'm off the pop until they can figure out what caused it, which may involve keyhole surgery or even an operation.

Sorry to hear that.

Watch out for surgeons - they tend to go for the fee-charging solution that removes the symptoms, when simple stuff like change in diet might address the underlying cause over the space of 8 weeks.

If they start talking about gall-bladder removal, then you (or the NHS) are probably being fleeced. And not just in the short term - that operation leaves people with long term dependence on prescription drugs.

Me no expert but good luck.

I've drunk it. Strong beer like that tastes far to sweet IMO.

Have you ever tried the three different varieties of Chimay?
