Baabaas squad 26/11/11

what a compelling 10 year olds arguement you give.
should I respond with "I know you are but what am I"?

You could do that would be about an about average mite reply. Hating something English.

shame the baba's got such a thrashing. I think their biggest weakness was Cipriani and Robbie Fruen.

Cipriani just wasn't a good choice for this game and there have long been questions about Fruen and they were pretty clear in that game. He also looked a bit overweight.

mostly wasn't great timing for the NZ players in particular, tough to ask Mealamu, Kaino (who has a new baby and just got married) in particular to come over for a one off. If anything Kaino needs rest right now more than any player I know besides McCaw. he's had a big year and the world cup was a huge effort from him.

I would have started Kahui at 13 and maybe selected someone like Bauden Barrett at 10. That would have solved 90% of the problems in the backline. Good defenders either side of Mortlock would have made things very tricky for Australia.

I don't see how some people can say Fruean had such a poor game and make him out to be the worst player on the pitch then say Sam Tomkins was alright.
I know he didn't have a good game decision wise, but neither did the rest of the Barbarians. Fruean WAS the most dangerous Barbarian on attack and looked like the only back who would've made a clean break until Kahui came on. I'm not saying he had a great game because he didn't, but to say that Ioane's try was his fault is a poor statement. The entire backline were running an outside line on defence apart from Mortlock, he decided to come in off his line and that created the gap. Fruean was caught wrong footed as he was relying on Mortlock to cover his own channel...

I won't make excuses for his over the top attempt at a pass to Toeava when he broke the line, nor his poor decision in trying to come back in and pass to Tomkins. He should've sprinted for the corner and when he got on the outside of Ashley-Cooper he could've thrown the ball back around to the supporting Tomkins. Or even tried to break the tackle which we know he can but Ashley-Cooper is strong on defence.

How does everyone think Tomkins did? would he be a good prospect for Union or not ? I thought he was solid enough ...didnt get that many opportunities, took his try well. but didnt really get tested enough, especially considering the one sided score !!

He made a few errors in contact, to be expected considering the contact area he's used to is a break in the game, not a contest for possession. Those errors were more the fault of the people who picked him than Tomkins himself.

Besides that, he didn't botch any chances, miss any tackles... just ended up on the back of a 50 point game as a winger. He was no less noticeable than Habana, an all-time great winger.
