Aviva Premiership - Round 2

I feel like I should say something on seeing such a result but I'm not sure what's to say other than

HAW-HAW

Interesting season this.

I thought that this was going to be a close 5 point game resulting in a slender sarries win. The game was very good by our point of view, 50% territory in our 22 is incredible, not concede a single point while scoring 39. Not a bad day at the office.
A couple of points
-Discipline was ****ing awful. If we do that too saints or tigers we will get punished, how Harlequins didn't manage to even look like scoring is just baffling, and we are lucky that they didnt have the confidence to hold onto the ball and wait for the chances.
-On the Fraser v Robshaw debate, both had really good games. I was surprised how good Robshaw carried in the tight and his handling is great as usual. Fraser was really impressive for the second week in the row and he is still making a serious case for England. Robshaws game though was really strong so could they play him at 6, very unlikely but who knows ?
-Hodgson was really good this week, but Evans just cost his team dearly. Botica should start next game.
-The scrums where wierd as Barrington had the best of Sinckler then it all changed in the blink of an eye, and I couldn't see how.
-Finally and I don't like to do this... Barnes was ****. He was inconsistent with his calls at the breakdown, I thought we were unlucky as Quins were holding on and Vunipola/Brown /Fraser should have got the penalty. He missed some clear yellows for Longbottom/Lindsay-Hague/Quins for collapsing the mauls/Saracens over the ball. I just thought he let too much **** go really.

- Actually just thought Ashton for England ;)

In Barnes' defense, his wife had their first child on Thursday night. I imagine his mind was very much not on the game and he was quite keen for it to be all over and get back to his family. Not sure why another ref wasn't called in tbh. It was a pretty shocking performance.

You make me mad Saffycen, all Ashton and no Wade makes Patchey a dull boy. But lets not argue in front of everyone.

Just watched the Quins v Sarries game - even in the midst of that murky turd of performance by Quins... Brown still excelled. Yarde, however, should be fined for his laziness.

Yarde looked good going forward, made some lovely half breaks. But yeah, he should be downing pints and giving up his lunch money for that laziness on defense.

Bath 17 - 7 LW

Ford and Eastmond sharing FH effectively - Kyle showing some nice territorial kicking skills.

Bonus point - Houston goes over from a couple of metres out after a strong maul.

is 0-39 some sort of record for Prem ? Surely it is for the Quins ?..

Burns is playing better starting to grow. His touch finders were brilliant in some cases

Crane played well when he came on.

Gibson was immense.

Kitchener was brilliant stealing line outs left right and centre, command the role and killed off lots of exeter ball in promising places.

Youngs has grown a lot since being given the captaincy and becoming a father.

Manu had a poor game. Defence was still being caught out.

Hill and slade look extremely promising.

Ford v Burns next week will be interesting.

Hopefully we may have Croft and potentially Thorn.

53 - 26 FT

Ford only missed the one kick (with his wrong foot).

Why was he kicking with his wrong foot?

Eh, suppose there's a slight silver lining (or as SelimNiai said to me earlier, a slightly less dull grey one) that Welsh picked up a bonus. Long long way to go, and massive improvement needed fast.

Welsh attacked pretty well in the first 15 minutes of their game vs Exeter, and did similar for large periods today.
Very loose play from Bath though - one of their try's looked a bit suspect (on a low quality stream, so it may have actually been fine) and another came from an overthrow by our very inexperienced hooker Dunn, on the 5m line.

Against better defenses, and teams who perhaps have better concentration I think they'll find it harder to score points.
They'll obviously improve though.

His ability to move a game around the park is very much overshadowed by his running game in a lot of people's eyes I think, but it was the aspect of his game that impressed me most when hitting his purple patch at Glaws. Good news to hear this.

TBF the only thing that wasn't doing particularly well at Glos was tackling.

Just watched the Sale game from yesterday and Cipriani absolutely dominated - easily the best player on that pitch, from either side
His defence was great as well - Twelvetrees tried to run over him and Danny smashed him and made him knock on.

So many of these scrum penalties are absolute BS - Hibbard is doing the Hartley technique of standing up then the pressure's on. Murphy is hinging and then Cobilas is getting penalised for losing his feet. Both Murphy and Afoa binding on the arm.
Also the penalty try was crap because the 17 was boring in horrendously.
