Aviva Premiership Round 16/17 Round 13

Now the dust has settled and I've spoke to my pals in the West stand where the main booing was....it turns out the booing was actually for the ref as he Continuously allowed ford over the allocated time for kicking.

At one stage the fans actually gave him a five second count down then booed. I don't condone booing at all but in this case it wasn't aimed at Ford.

Ps I don't get the pure nastiness going Ford's way either from the Bath fans. His actual play wasn't that bad last might...there were alot worse bath players!

And we played well also for the most part.

Booing the ref makes even less sense - he had the best game of the 47 men out there.
I also noticed the 5 seconds count-down - which started around when the 60 second count-down started. I really don't think Ford takes longer to kick than anyone else; though they all push the 60 second allowance - if you're gonig to boo that, then boo every not-straight put-in, every not-straight line-out, evey time a player places the ball back 10 seconds after being tackled...

I don't believe for a second it never once crossed their minds that their "booing the ref" might also put off the kicker.

But saying that, I wouldn't make too much of it. Like it or not, kickers get booed, they have to be strong enough to shrug it off. I freely admit to sledging opposition kickers on a Saturday (never after they've started the kicking process obviously)

Anyway it is what it is. I'm just disappointed it seems to have taken the gloss / focus off a good falcons performance and win.

In the end we deserved the win (despite fords lack of goal kicking giing us a hand).

I think our biggest problem at the moment though is our chance conversion rate. We have lots of possession and territory yet we are so bad at converting that into points. To be a top team you need to be ruthless.

In the first half whilst Bath were seemingly still in the changing rooms and having juggling competitions with the ball...we failed to take advantage. Twice we were camped in their 22 yet both times came away with zero points.

It was the same story v wasps.

But hey....we're improving and that's what matter.

Marler out in the warm up and then evans off for HIA and Collier off with a leg injury in the first 7mins.
Are the rugby God's smiling on us?

Quins warned 4 times in the first 10mins for football antics
Genuinely surprised Brown wasn't penalised for back chat to the ref, think any other ref would've but JP likes to try and be mates with the players

We're treading a thin line with the new high tackle laws - two so far. Solomona and Charnley both go high a lot and (Charnley especially) has the tendency to slip up round the neck in contact cause he targets the ball a lot

Brad Barritt a lucky boy. Barrington unlucky but correctly (under the new laws) sent off. So as far as behaviour changes go, not a great start.

Another prop down for Quins
Adam Jones who only came into the side 5mins before the match now has to player an hour at loose head

That was decent from Nowell. Let it drift, caught with one hand whilst skinning Wrigglesworth. Good effort that.

Solomona gets his third in three

My major bug bear with refereeing is rearing it's head again: a try cancelling out foul play.
Brown deliberately knocked the ball away on his try line, but we got it and scored - it's still a yellow card, all day.

So Denny Robinson?

Aha, bit dumb from Quins,
Penalty 5m out and they quick tap and yarde gets held up.
Realistically you don't want to run straight at a league winger cause they're specialists at holding players up.
We then get the ball back at the resulting scrum

Edit:
Quality Quins try then, Chisholm with a great angle/run to break the defensive line

Urgh then another instantly afterwards, Sweil goes 60-70m after a dropped high ball

Parling getting hit around the head had absolutely nothing to do with him running bent over at the hips.

Absolutely nothing.

Tackling head first = BAAAD.

Carrying head first = goooood.

As I thought the game will evolve into players running doubled over head first. They either get tackled around the head or the defender doesn't risk it...

Begining of the end to be fair, we won't see a game with out a red card anymore.

I wonder how long until the refs start getting abuse from the crowds like football

Here We go

The law of unintended consequences. Attackers are now protected and can run low without fear of being hit high whilst defenders are pretty much hitting hard bony parts (hips) of attackers. It'll change the game that's for sure. If safety is key what's an effective but legal tackle going to look like? All at the ankles and hope others can defend the offload?

Genuinely didn't realise Marchant was playing for Quins until he just got subbed
