Do you think Treviso is a serious contender in their first year in the Magners league?

Or did Leinster and the Scarlets just have a bad 80 minutes?

Or maybe do you think its a little of both?

Also, what does this mean for Gli Azzurri? Will the Italians have a chance of advancing in a pool containing the youthful Australians and the transitioning Irish?

I don't think they're contenders for winning the Magners League. They are contenders for a very respectable mid table finish.

I think Treviso are more than satisfied with winning at home regularly and scoring the odd away win to get their inaugural season off to a good start.

They look good, and if they carry on then possible play off contenders!

Not for the ***le, but they may nick a play-off spot at best. However, I believe they are a good additon to the league.

They won't get near playoffs but will aim to be really competitive and prove that they can hack it and deserve to be at this level

Whats their squad depth like? They've started well, but it's a long old season and in particular internationals will hammer them. I doubt Treviso have the depth to do this all season long.

Be interesting to see what happens come international games time.

Aironi will finish bottom of the table. Treviso will be fighting it out with the Scarlets, Edinburgh, Dragons and Connacht in their own battle to finish 7th. If they do finish 7th it'll be a terrific season and show that the decision to add Italian teams has merit for more reasons than solely money.

What do you think this says about the upcoming world cup?

Will Italy have a chance at an upset against either Australia or Ireland and sneak their way into the elimination rounds?

can't see the transfer thread, so I will put this here...

treviso have signed South African fly-half Willem de Waal, who is 31 or so, has a very steady and realiable boot (as B&I Lions fans might remember), but lacks an attacking game.
He will join up shortly before or during the Autumn tests
The end.

Unfortunately for Treviso Goosen is no longer with them and Marcato (who was the heir apparent to the difficult Italan fly-half spot) always seems to be injured. McClean is (or so I thought) a reliable kicker.

Treviso picked up their 3rd home win from 4 home games (5 games in total) tonight beating the Dragons by 20-13. It's a terrific start for them and they appear to be a worthy addition to the league. I can see them picking up a few more scalps at home.

Was watching the live updates on the magners site,
I've a soft spot for the Dragons, but i'm glad to see Treviso doing so well.
Didn't expect them to be convincingly in the playoff zone

It's early days yet. Their squad will be tested when it comes around to the internationals and they've played only 20% of their games on the road thus far. That said they could easily pick up around 7 wins (they're well capable of beating Aironi twice, Connacht and the Scottish teams) and get a few bonus point losses too. That would be a fantastic debut season and give them a real base from which to grow both their club and Italian rugby in general.

Are they going to lose a lot of players to internationals?
I admit i don't know a lot of Italian players, i did recognise a few names in the squad tonight though

I'm gutted about the result tonight, I was checking the updates on bbc sport. As much as i was gutted about the result from a neutral perspective Treviso are punching well above their weight and defying the odds because before they'd played alot of people thought tat along with Aironi they would be the whooping boys but they have proved that they are decent teams and worthy of their places in the Magners League.
