Are Treviso the Real Deal?

Are they going to lose a lot of players to internationals?
14 Treviso players have been named in Italy's training squad for the November tests. Obviously not all will make the cut but there'll be a serious dent put in their playing staff for games during international breaks.

Youch, that is a fair few.
I suppose that's the risk you take with only two top level clubs in Italy

Am I the only one who sorta fears Italy now after watching Treviso's start to the season?

Possibly. Treviso have been doing an alright job, nothing that scary and there will be some contributions from a slightly rancid Aironi to bolster that team. I think every team in the 6N can look at whats happening domestically and draw confidence... except for Scotland. And should probably be taking more confidence. Treviso will need to do a fair bit more to fill me with any belief Italy are now going to be scary.

While Treviso's start has been impressive I'm not yet convinced that it'll have a huge effect on Italy's results. As it stands Treviso are midtable and Aironi are shite. Compare that with a couple of Welsh and Irish clubs who are at the top of the table and I can't see Italy beating those two teams. Beating Scotland could be possible though since Italy will be bolstered by a few French based players.

Longer term I expect the addition of Treviso and Aironi to the Magners League will have a hugely beneficial affect on Italy's results in the 6 Nations and also their results in the Heineken Cup. I could see Treviso pushing for the HC quarter final within 3 or 4 years based on playing quality opponents week in week out and strong home form.

Just seen that Aironi have 14 players out. Which is a bit of a burden to bear. Still not that good, but then they are a newly put together team and Treviso aren't.

I don't see why everyone is so suprised with their blistering start to the season. They've got some decent Italian Internationals in their side as well as a handful of overseas players. I think their squad is superior to the likes of the Dragons to tell you the truth. I'd expect them to finish mid-table a play-off spot seems a bit out of their reach.

As for Italy upsetting Australia and Ireland? Nah.
