No need, the tournament is in New Zelaand, if McCaw goes down we can easily tell Todd or Braid to hop on one of a dozen domestic flights that day to wherever the All Blacks are currently based and join up with the camp within a couple of hours of recieving the phone call.
While this is true, its not that straightforward.
For starters, Braid is out for the rest of the year with a recurrence of his neck injury
Also, the stand-down period is seven days. If a player goes out of the tournament injured, his replacement cannot play for seven days, so if we were to lose McCaw say, in the quarter final (presumably v Argentina) and win it, we would have to face South Africa in the semi without a specialist openside flanker. This is not a prospect I would relish after seeing Brussouw do Thomson over at Port Elizabeth last weekend.
