Isn't Europe in the process of developing one or 2 though?
I was about to ask.
Typhoon/Gripen/Rafale ("gen 4.5") are the most up to date Euro options I'm aware of (but then, I am largely ignorant).



ETA: Google says that the Tempest is due 2035, don't know what "generation" that'd be.


The other question is how useful ultra-expensive, manne,d supersonic fighters are going to be in a drone war - obviously, they'll still have their place, but...

Well thats probably because they dont make huge mistakes when putting it out to tender understanding what a realistic proposal look like as opposed to a joke.

Just been burnt too many times as an engineer where we put a realistic plan together and get told it's too expensive and would take too long. Get told to cut it massively. And low and behold it costs more and and takes longer.
