A Political Thread pt. 2

Because in the wake of the 2nd world war Europe needed to rebuild and Germany for all intent and purposes was disarmed. With France and Britain absolutely ravaged someone had to step up in the name of liberal democracy against communism under Stalin. The USA CHOSE to use the fact it had economic superiority to become the de facto leader of NATO allied countries.

A place which has seen itself in cultural ascendancy for the best part of a century. And until Trump was a place it was quite happy with sure they wanted as they could more NATO countries to step up in real terms with the money spent of defence. But in reality the USA liked its position of authority and meant nobody was really to argue against them when they took part in conflicts in their best interests.

Sure European members of NATO should of been more wary the US would remind from that role. But we should kid ourselves that they didnt want it and it's on in the past decade that has been changing and even then Trump 2.0 is way more radical that his first term in this front.
And it's not like America didn't benefit from being the biggest security guard in the world.

BBC News - Parking fines: Drivers taken to court over car park keying errors - BBC News

Ridiculous that car parks are still getting away with this crap. Start holding the directors of these companies personally liable and things will change quickly.

Yeah...watching the video people need to not be so ******* stupid and read the whole screen.

She types in L but conveniently forgets and the screen is blurred enough to nit mention that part of screen change is to start displaying what you're entering. It's says REG: L at the top.

The person only typing in L should be able to see this and knows they've not entered their full reg number.

There's no validation that can be done due to foreign license plates so you can't protect around use keying in that area.

I've got little sympathy for people who cant use simple tech properly and profane ignorance.

The real issue with these machines are the card readers with bad WiFi signals that take forever to take a card payment.

This may be the most shocking headline I've ever seen.
From the Mail?
Are we SURE it's not photoshopped?

In my letter to my MP, I suggested that the invitation should be withdrawn, and offered to Zelenskyy instead - even though he'd likely be too busy to accept it.
Messaging means something.

The article is a little misleading where it says in the case of the lady who challenged it on court the "machine jumped forward and asked me to make payment." If it was the same as in the video it was on the same screen.

It should really be on separate screens asking for full reg and not go to next screen asking for payment until full reg. has been entered. That I do have sympathy with peeps who got caught out and just lets these money grabbing car park operators get away with it and just point to their terms and conditions, knowing full well hardly anyone reads.

I try very hard to not alay blame to bad HCI design at the operators themselves.

I do agree about asking for reg to be confirmed before enter payment. But that entirely what the system is doing it's asking for the registration number then pressing a button to go to payment. It's not the best design I think world but it is fulfilling the requirement you laid out.

We also have to remember these systems are designed by bottom of the barrel SW engineers for the cheapest price possible. Probably knocked up in a week, a month at best. They probably have next to no formal training who decided they could skip Uni as they already knew it.

So yes whilst I'd agree the design isn't the best I don't think it's malicious and I do think its designed well enough that someone should work it out. The fact you haven't entered your entire reg and it's not displayed on the screen fully should be key.

As I say the fact the article and the lady conveniently forgets to point out the reg is at the top of the screen and saying its telling to press card to proceed. Means they've either a never analysed the screen or b being deliberately misleading to garner sympathy to pretend the machine isn't operating correctly.

I think they're trying to garner sympathy because they've PAID for the parking, but due to the greed of the companies desperate to stop people giving tickets with unexpired time to someone else, they've been pulled up on a technicality.

That I agree with. Less the technicality but we should be questioning why a reg number is required in the first place.

Also rates the parking I use regularly is £3 after 17:30 (cinema). But if I park before then I'm on the hourly rate even after 17:30 it doesn't switch to £3 for the evening. They've collected 4-5 quid from me extra bwfore because it doesn't switch. Because I've parked at 4pm and collected my car after 9.

As such I have to do stupid things. Like take the car out the car park and take it back in (it operates on a number plater reader). Or like yesterday wait until 17:30 on the dot knowing I'll miss some trailers (not end of world but I like to settle in my seat).

Point being this isn't the point of attack.

Did he do a crash course on tactility yesterday. He's gone from straight laced Keir to Octopus Keir.

Probably saw how Trump loved having Macron touch his arm and hold his hand...

Apparently Tesla stock is dropping off a cliff. Don't know if its true but I would laugh if it did.

Hope this is true. We won't see any Government led boycotts but I think we'll see a lot of consumer led ones especially especially when it comes to Musk and Trump's businesses. I can also see many boycotting the World Cup and Olympics if he carries on throwing grenades and going down on all fours for Putin.

It's down 23% in the last month but still up 39% over the last 6

The stock is not rooted in reality whatsoever, when you compare it to comparative businesses - completely based on vibes, closer to a cryptocurrency than a real stock

It'll burst eventually, and maybe this is the start of that, but I wouldn't hold my breath

Isn't most of his fortune based on the price of Tesla stock?

If it drops too much will that impact his ability to finance other things like space x?

I'm pretty sure Tesla holds a load of bitcoin on its Balance sheet and so when it's price goes down the Tesla stock price also goes down.

Bitcoin has soared since Trump won the election and so I'm sure that's a big part of Tesla's 6 month gain.

Amazing how Trump and his cronies are framing it as Zelensky isn't ready for peace and wants to keep the war going when all he asked for was security assurances in the event of Putin breaking any peace deal and attacking Ukraine in the future. They can't even acknowledge that Putin was and is the aggressor. It's political gaslighting at its worst.

Trump might be desperate to win the Nobel peace prize but the reality is that he isn't a peace maker. He can talk about deals all he likes but he's effectively trying to broker a surrender with Putin ultimately gaining the Ukrainian land they've seized illegally. Maybe his next book should be "The art of the surrender".
