A Political Thread pt. 2

I reckon she's the political equivalent of a conspiracy theorist. The more right wing ideas she gets the further along the path she goes. It's like someone keeps feeding her new videos of right wing conspiracies that pull her further along.
She's kinda like a UK Majorie Taylor Green.

Doubt the actual vote will produce those results, but if they did (or close to), that's a massive swing - Street got close to 50% of the vote in 2021
He's really been trying to distance himself from the Tory brand in the lead up to the vote - he should've left the party and run as an independent post HS2 **** up if he wanted to keep it, really
Reform gaining 11% compared to '21 as well

If that came true Labour would also be outright beating Conservatives and Reform combined.

Only local elections in my area is for police commissioner and they only released who will run against the Conservative incumbent on 10 April.

Same.
I will post my usual vote for the Police Commissioner of "This should be an appointment based on merit, not politics"

If ever there was any question about how morally bankrupt and completely devoid of any integrity the far right now are... This goes beyond politics, the is full blown scum. If Hitler had an R next to his ******* name, they would choose him.

Interesting thread from Hugh Grant on his lawsuit with The Sun, and why it seems so many people who have legitimate cases settle out of court.
If you don't have twitter/can't read the thread essentially:
The way that the court system is set up if you turn down a settlement and go to court, and then the settlement the court agrees on is less than the out of court settlement, you have to pay the legal fees for all involved. Murdoch has a huge team of incredibly expensive lawyers, and his out of court settlement offers are very large, so they make it not worth the risk of going to court and getting a regular settlement but then getting lumped with the legal fees - Grant says the bill would be £10m(!) for his case, so he's settled out of court and is donating the settlement money

It's the same here. Good but exploitable if money isn't as issue for the defendant.

Saves the tax payer money ultimately.

Its fine, if as has happened many times there aren't gag order attached.

Too often settlements are used to hush people up.

That's our legal system for you. Those with the means get their justice and can bleed those with not as much. It's all a big game.

Just as Republicans are doubling down on the deeply unpopular overturning of Roe vs Wade, Conservatives are quadrupling down on the absolute farce that is the Rwanda scheme https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68833783

Let's be honest, this is not a serious attempt to solve the problem, it's a vehicle to perpetuate a culture war. That's it, like most of the ******* Tory policies at the moment. They are not fit to govern. By every metric this country has fallen on their watch. Economically, socially, diplomatically, they have ****** up everything they have touched and now their sole desire is to play stupid ******* games as long as possible until they are inevitably kicked out.

It's a civil case, all grant was ever going to get was monetary damages anyway. Murdoch is protecting his stock price to a degree but his media is so odious that I genuinely doubt this would have an effect.

Without this function in court taxes would be far far higher. Most ordinary people who enter into civil litigation want a settlement in any case.

Murdoch could close one his top selling newspapers on the back of hacking; pay off $700m in US for defamation. Odious indeed!
