A Political Thread pt. 2

In weirder news there is an imminent election in South Korea. The opposition Conservatives got their stuffy candidate livened up by making an AI version of him with charisma and punchy delivery, and getting that scripted video version of him to do various adverts and even answer questions.

The rival from the ruling Liberal party responded with an AI version of himself and a campaign promise to reduce the cost of hair loss treatments.

The Conservative AI guy is winning over the hair loss champion. 'Sir' Keir needs to get an AI version pronto.

The world is weird

The Ed Davey deepfake sex tape AI that answers questions during pillow talk has got to be the Lib Dem campaign priority. Voters need only submit a selfie to appear in a fully personalised campaign response. Extreme action involving bending over a desk are unlocked by bringing up tuition fees.

If there wasn't enough motivation to invest in green energy then surely this situation with Russia has provided another major reason. EU completely dependent on Russia for gas and oil and it's really stopping them doing everything possible to limit Russia. It should have been obvious that allowing yourself to be dependent on others gives them power and with Russia it was always likely to be an issue.

Another side to that (and a potential reason for the invasion), is that Ukraine is a major grain producer.

Owning a substantial part of the EU's "raw materials" would have gave him a load of leverage.

Boris Johnson, who plays tennis with Russian Oligarchs, and evades his security details to party with foreign billionaires... Not a security risk.
I see this foreign billionaire is back in the news again.
So what "we" are saying, is that Johnson's close relationship with a Russian Oligarch, son of a (former) senior KGB officer, and close friend of Putin; close enough for Johnson to explicitly evade security in order to attend an undisclosed party with, who funded Johnson's London Mayoral campaign, and who's newspaper is about the most avidly pro-Johnson in the land, who sits in the House of Lords at Johnson's suggestion (but he played no part in it, despite suggesting it, and being the only person who thinks it's a good idea) - going explicitly against MI6's advice on the principal that he's a security risk (unlike Patel and Johnson who are... erm... already known security risks - but just like Kier Starmer, who... isn't) - who appears to be the only Russian Oligarch in London who doesn't donate money to the tory party, and would potentially be extremely embarrassed if the Russia Report ever saw the light of day...

We're saying that this is all a mountain out of a molehill, pure coincidence, there's nothing to see here. It's not remotely compromising of Boris Johnson, who is absolutely not Lebedev's ***** - to suggest such a thing would be unpatriotic cynicism that plays into Putin's hands...

Such a suggestion would be laughable and confusing.

Now, about those week-arse "sanction" that Britain is giving Russia 30-days warning before implementing...

It's so obvious that Boris is using this war/crisis as a means of trying to repair his Partygate reputation by being the 'world leader' (and I use that term loosely) who 'stood up to Putin'. Delivers piffling sanctions compared to other countries but does the most gobbing off in the media saying things like 'Putin must pay, Putin must fail etc. He needs to shut his birthday cake hole.

I think polling I've seen shows it hasn't really made much difference to the damage to his reputation, people also are show to strongly disagree with our refugee policy. I suspect the police are holding off the fines until this crisis has blow over domestically as I suspect considering everything else they don't want to be seen sweeping it under the Ukraine carpet.

I think the original predictions he'll last until after May elections are coming true now this has given him just enough lifeline.

Sorry, but your gonna have to explain why they are sitting in a giant strung out queue that largely negates any numerical advantage and removes all freedom of manoeuvring, rather than getting themselves off a (very vulnerable) single highway and into a useful position for either defending themselves or attacking Kyiv.

Talk is:
That convoy largely left Belarus with 3 days supplies thinking it'd be a walk over. That was what, 8 days ago?
The Ukrainians attacked and took out the lead vehicles.
The mud stopped the Russians getting around them (and I assume, same for clearing them off road - don't quite know how that's been a problem - do they not have winches?).
Now, many vehicles are out of fuel.
The troops will shortly run out of food.

The Ukrainians aren't really attacking them as soon its gonna become a massive disaster the Russians somehow have to handle, that convoy is shaping into a disorganised retreat (on foot) back across the Belarussian border to get food. Or officers shooting troopers for disobeying orders.

Or, quite possibly, the talk is rubbish - and by extension, all the above is rubbish. But given the hard evidence of Russian incompetence to date (trying to run field ops via unencrypted radios... like really?) - then I'm betting for, rather than against.

If it were you - would you be happy to be still be sat there on a single highway knowing if there is any attacks, you don't have freedom to manoeuvre?

[and I do appreciate where your coming from, both from your background and quoting Soviet doctrine]
Apologies missed this. Not been on social media much the last couple of days.

This guy explains is a bit better, I know he's a septic but he does use good sources.

Most likely a bit of both.

It's bullying, the same charge that Patel was found guilty of. One is banned from the house, one is ignored because it's inconvenient.
It also does seem like the scale is a little different if you read some of the reports (I can't find specifics of Patel accu but it amounts to swearing and shouting). Bercow's make pretty grizzly reading too and even today he seems to demonstrate no remorse at all.

I met Bercow a loooooong time ago (he was one of the first politicians I ever met) and I thought really highly of him for years, he was charismatic, friendly and honest - clearly he's a bit of a *** in reality. I'm disappointed

Cheers - watched the bulk of it.

There is a big, I'm not going to say flaw, but I'll use the term complication, to his argument over the convoy merely awaiting setting up of the infrastructure to attack Kyiv.

Simply put... would all the infrastructure for the attack not be in the convoy, and therefore require the convoy to actually disperse to the command posts and laager areas?

It's a flaw if you are thinking Western tactics. If this was a British operation then the column would habour up during the day and move at Night but the Russians don't seem to bothered about everyone seeing them. Now this might be because they are stupid or because they have no fear of attack or that the guys driving the supply column just cannot be trusted to do anything other than drive down a road in daylight. Personally I think it's a bit of all 3 but just because the column hasn't gone any closer to Kyiv doesn't mean it's not moving. Like the guy said there are a number of forward operating bases now to the west, another Russian task force closing in from the east. I think they are planning to surround Kyiv and reduce it in a siege similar to Grozny. People keep focusing on the column and were it isn't going. We need to perhaps look at where it is going and that looks like to the west.
