A Political Thread pt. 2

Now we know a bit more about trump's plans, Russia keeps Ukraine that it's occupying, with a nice few trillion in resources. Europe pays for rebuilding. The UN send troops to patrol and the US takes all the money for obsolete weapons.

All of this without allowing Ukrainian or European input.

If they'd taxed apple then they wouldn't have as much as a 6bn shortfall.

Whether as you suggest we didn't take a cent off Apple or took around 13bn...wouldn't make a difference to the figures in the article. It's about trade with GB which has primarily been reduced by Brexit and has absolutely **** all to do with how anyone is taxed in a domestic capacity.

Not sure it'll be UN as they are meant to be impartial. Germany, Poland and Spain not so keen on putting boots on the ground.

Rather hear on the European stance on who get's what territory, Ukraines Nato membership etc. At the moment it seems Europe's main imput is whatever is agreed Europe will send troops.

What does a agreeable peace deal look like to Starmer and co. Not just end the war and the Ukraine shafted. Seems like we might be going to agree with what the Americans want.

If Europe simply bends over and agrees to whatever the USA and Russia bash out to benefit themselces at the expense of Europe and Ukraine then it just shows the were right, Europe didn't deserve to be at the table as they are too ******* spineless to stand up to anyone. The largest economic block in the world should not be pushed around so easily but the feebleness of European politicians allows it.

Macron warned of this from his early days, his government and the EU wouldn't entertain it.

Sad state of affairs, Europe needs to protect its own interests now and a trade war over this is too risky offering Putin a window to put more military pressure on Ukraine.

They absolutely ****** this one up betting against and not preparing for Trump twice. At this point, military spending needs to be increased anyway and we know the EU will be strong if Trump wants to mess around with Tariffs and trade.

Ukraine losing out because one ally has a elected a callous leader with an egotistical fascination with dictators and another's naivity is a tough pill to swallow.

On face value it appears everyone is looking after there own interests, America, Russia and European states.

No surprise Russia sees Europe and Nato as weak. On the plus side when it comes to Military the EU wants to be friends.

Germany are a concern with elections and I'm not sure if they can survive a trade war. Especially as it's industry has enough issues as it is. I wonder which electric car maker benefits if German car companies are screwed over

Probably the one with a bloody great big factory in Berlin.

Amazing how the level of corruption in the Whitehouse now makes Nixon look like a saint. Seriously Americans, you ****** up really really badly. The extent of this fuckup won't vanish if/when Trump and MAGA are forced out, this could take years, even decades to fix. Any pretence that the rule of law exists in the USA any more is gone.

For context, 3x more top staff have resigned from the justice department over this than resigned in the Nixon case that led to his impeachment, and the Trump DoJ were threatening to fire an entire team unless somebody came forward to file this illegal brief. THAT is how corrupt things are now.

US-Russia summit ends in a partial victory for Moscow – and a reversal on Europe

Summary: trump bent over and grabbed his ankles. The US legitimised Russia and suddenly the US is saying Ukraine and Europe need to be involved in talks.

You have go a long way down the right wing news NYPost (Murdoch) and Fix to find these stories, but top of CNN.

I know we shouldn't be surprised by anything Trump does these days, but Jesus Christ

That is absolutely mental if true. History could show this to be a massive inflection point in terms of relations between America and Europe/Ukraine. The absence of Europe and Ukraine from the negotiating table beggars belief. Two organ grinders getting together and selling the monkeys down the river.

This should be the mother of all wake up calls for Europe to unite and get it's **** together economically and militarily. A new alliance/pact needs to be top of the agenda after Germany hopefully stops the far right from winning power. Trump has sold out on America's NATO membership and Europe should have seen it coming

The most baffling thing is people could see the issues Europe was facing coming down the tracks and just stuck their head in the sand.

Reliance on Russian fossil fuels, especially after the invasion of Crimea and Georgia, ignored.
Complete lack of any sort of European representation on significant international issues ignored
Complete lack of any sort of military capability and total reliance on a flip-flopping ally that has been getting more extreme for nearly 2 decades ignored.

Europe has had ample warning about all these issues and just ignored them. Now it's all coming back to bite us and we are completely unprepared. It's worse than the cold war, at least then Europe was sidelined but had a strong ally in the USA, now Europe is being sidelined and being betrayed by that previous ally. Maybe the ******* idiots in Europe will finally wake up to the reality that Europe needs to be self-reliant and carve our own path in the world, not just singing to the American tune.

Nailed it. You can't get Europe to agree on support for Ukraine after the war "boots on the ground". Let alone any thing else.

You have a number of Nato members in Europe, Spain etc who don't want Ukraine to join. Not just the US. Unfortunately I think that ship's sailed.
