A Political Thread pt. 2

Tbh at this stage it seems like pressure is on Israel to prove it wasn't responsible as it's possibly united the Arabic nations surrounding them against them. Most have come out condemning Israel.

Al Jazeera's live stream showed a rocket failing in the air and then a large explosion on the ground shortly after it fell - whether that rocket could cause such a catastrophic explosion on the ground is another thing

Absolutely devastating situation no matter the cause

Genuinely surprised Biden is visiting Israel today, secret service must be sweating massively

I don't think killing Biden would be the smartest thing Hamas has ever done so would make it as likely as Gal Gadot giving me a call asking me what I'm up to later.

Government projects advisor saying the sale of land bought for HS2 should be put on hold for 3 years to enable the project to potentially be revisited in the future. This of course means the Tories are going to have a fire sale, flogging it off on the cheap to their mates and salting the land to ensure Labour don't even have the option to restart the project if they wanted to. They are currently using their attempts to sabotage any option for another government to restart the project as "proof" of a Labour U-turn, that is the level of pettiness of the current government. Willing to flush billions down the toilet just to try to score some political points.

The only way I'd be OK with it is if the land is used for housing development so they bypass the nimbys blocking off house building - though with that said how much of the land is useable for that? Like in the right areas, right power/plumbing infrastructure etc?

I mean ideally we just kickstart HS2 again in the not too distant future but I can't see it happening tbh - there won't be a lot of cash flying around if/when Labour take over, and they're already going to have to spend in so many places to make up for the damage the Tories have done

Substantiate?
Supposition but given that's what has happened with every other selling of state assets and recent large contracts given out by the government, I would not be the slightest bit surprised it happens again. I also think the fact the advisor is having to publicly state they should not be doing it, indicates they are planning to do it.

From imagery and videos today it looks like the hospital thing was massively overplayed last night - rocket strike in the car park destroying a bunch of cars and damaging the building but nowhere near the hospital destroyed and 500+ dead that was being reported,

The issue with social media is all the journalists (and world leaders, it seems, now) have to get out first with a reaction - reporting doesn't matter anymore, you just have to be first

Weird that taking a statement from Hamas as fact turned out to not be a good idea...

Surely a greenway would be a better use of it?
Not with the massive housage shortage in the country - though realistically it's materials and skills that's the main bottleneck rather than land
Maybe they can start knocking up cabins out of railway sleepers?

This IDF spokesperson was also interviewed last night on a local television show, and he showed equally as much compassion for anyone without food and water in Gaza
