A Political Thread pt. 2

To take it to the extreme, that would mean a business couldn't refuse to work with a self-proclaimed Nazi. I'm pretty sure there is a point somewhere in which it is accepted a business can deny service to someone based on their views but I'm not sure where that line is.
The line is if you were being asked to promote or associated with illegal activity.

Farage is a racist and xenophobe but nothing he's done is actually illegal.

What are the EU playing at?
Having read the text of the declaration, it's referring to them as the Falklands / Islas Malvinas. Given other content in the declaration, I doubt anything will come of it, although it's sad seeing as this is clearly a petty move by the EU.

"7. We reaffirm the shared values upon which our partnership is based remain unchanged: resilient, inclusive and democratic societies, the promotion, protection and respect of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, democracy, including free and fair, inclusive, transparent and credible elections and media freedom, inclusive multilateralism and international cooperation, based on the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and International Law, including the principles of sovereignty, self-determination, non-intervention in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of States and to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against territorial integrity."

The Falklands question regarding sovereignty and self-determination should be settled. If the EU wants to establish the precedent that a few years of ownership overrides ownership for the vast majority of the time and the free association of the people who live there, they can kiss goodbye to any sort of credibility on the self-determination front.

Trade deals > Sovereignity/Self determination
Explains why France and Germany dragged their heels so much in the early days of the war in Ukraine
Concerning times for Taiwan with how much Macron is cozying up to China

Disappointing to see it was a unanimous movement - thought the Eastern European nations wouldn't be so petty considering how much the UK contributes to their borders with Russia

It may be a relatively minor thing in the grand scheme of things but it, and their snarky comment, is still a massive middle finger to a nation that's supposed to be an ally to the EU

There is certainly the real possibility of realpolitik taking over the UK getting screwed over by larger powers (as happened in the cold war). Ultimately bigger blocs sidelining us and us getting pushed around because we have successfully alienated all our allies was one of the consequences of our particularly belligerent approach to Brexit that was raised multiple times and ignored.

Still petty and pathetic by the EU but we may have to accept we are looking at a future where the EU, USA, Asian countries and Latin America all do not give a **** about us and will happily undermine us for their own benefit. We simply aren't the big boys at the big table any more and our one chance of staying there (the EU) we have severed.

Shapps comes across as a complete idiot, but it'll feed in the JSO and Union barron's fund Labour rhetoric.

What's everyone's thoughts on the three by-elections. I think it'll go one per party, Libs, Labour, Conservative.

Just can't see Labour over turning a massive majority in Selby i think it is. Equally i wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Glad to see there are no objections on the forum to Indyref2 or an Irish border poll.

Aside from that little bit of devils advocacy, would be nice to see what the EU would make of Catalunya's right to self-determination....

Isn't Argentina one of those countries that if they sorted their **** out they would be really successful? In terms of population demographic, natural resources, food exports etc they have loads of potential and would be useful to the EU as a trading partner?

To be fair, I don't think there is all that much objection to either of those things on here.

Timed to come in at about the same time as the next labour / coalition government...
