A Political Thread pt. 2

Yeah I de-followed an acquaintance on twitter over it, conspiracy idiots.

When will people learn the level of conspiracy it requires to keep this **** quiet is simply not possible.
That's a great question to ask for all conspiracy's. I don't even know why governments would want to cover it up?

You got to ask yourself why there are peeps who believe in them and aliens etc: to give meaning and purpose to their lives.
Yeah this is probably true but then we all look to certain things to give us meaning. As I say I don't mind people believing in Aliens as thats a perfectly logical position but my guess is that most people who believe aliens are among us or built the pyramids are the same people who believe we never landed on the moon or that covid was a government hoax and the vaccine had microchips in it to control us or any other ********. That kind of stuff crosses
The line into the potentially harmful category.

That's out of order but in the same token it's literally all over the chuffing news. Every single media outlet is going mad because a bunch of rich people wanted to go on a risky jolly and now they are in the ****.
It's the kind of story that will get attention regardless. But more so over here as 3 of them are British including the Dad and his 19 year old son.

So BOE have to create a recession to get inflation down.

The main tool to deal with recession is to lower interest rates and so they had better hurry up and get inflation under control as they can't deal with inflation and a recession at the same time. I read somewhere that the BoE have been far too conservative with these piddly 0.25 increases and should have been more aggressive from the start. Guess that's what happens when keeping the markets happy takes priority.

I do feel sorry for people with rising mortgage costs but at the same time a house price correction will help young/low income people get on the property ladder. The cynic in me still thinks that big business (including supermarkets) have used inflation as an opportunity to hike prices. With rising mortgage costs it almost seems like a stealth tax bypassing the Government and going to straight into the pockets of big business. No wonder people still want to WFH.

Its okay Millenials can get shafted yet again just getting on the property ladder and now being ****** when their mortgages are up for renewal.

Apparently average mortgage deals in the UK are far shorter than in the US and other western countries. It has been common practice for people to fix rates for 20 years in the US which I guess gives certainty. The UK mortgage market is more of a rollercoaster.

Think the housing market is too far gone, now - House prices are going to need an almighty correction to get to anywhere near sensible levels again, the kind of correction that would crash the entire economy

I had a look at the new builds around me and a two bed mid terrace, no driveway/parking, starts at £270k, two bed semi (parking, no garage) starts at £295k. Unreal - I'd need a three figure deposit for the kind of thing that a decade ago would be considered a starter home - this is in the West Midlands, so traditionally a cheaper area to live

Yeah mine was 225K (2 bed semi, driveway) and on my salary I shouldn't be thinking 'starter home'. That was just 4 years ago.

This needed sorting out 20 years ago after the 90's boom. Fixing now simply screws everyone at the bottom of the ladder. It needs seriously out the box thinking.

If true then you think, regardless of any waivers signed, the company could be found liable for corporate manslaughter.
Definitely feels like this was an accident waiting to happen and surely if there have been other incidents or warnings before and they haven't acted then it has to make them liable because if they have that knowledge and didn't share it with the customers, then they've signed a waiver under false pretenses.

I don't mind people believing in Aliens. They're very likely to exisit in some far away galaxy I just can't accept people who say they're living among us or have visited earth in the past.
I honestly have no idea if intelligent life exists elsewhere, though I'm sure some form of microscope life might, even in our own solar system. However, I'm sure if intelligent aliens did exist and had visited Earth, they probably took one look at us and said "yeah, we ain't getting involved in that ****".

Been saving for 2 years in Kuwait, with a bit of help from family I should be able to pay off the mortgage on my one bed flat and then keep renting it out. Interest rates are a killer at the moment.

I'm not sure much exists here either.

Average house prices near me 470k - 560k. A small three bed terrace is over half a million. Not just young people who can't get on the ladder here that's for sure

It must exist somewhere in the universe it's so vast but unlikey anything like us in the Milky Way.

It's more than likely that there is/was intelligent life somewhere out there - but it'd be hell of a coincidence if it existed at the same time window as intelligent life on Earth, AND being capable of intra- / inter- galactic travel to get here AND being capable of actually communicating with us.

The idea that there's intelligent alien life here on Earth is... ridiculous. The idea that any 1 government would be capable of covering it up for more than a few months is ridiculous. The idea that multiple governments would even agree to cover it up, let alone do so, and continue to do so for several decades is ridiculous.

There's a decent enough chance that there's some alien microbial life somewhere on Earth, but highly unlikley to be viable and active currently.

Depends, this is part of the Fermi paradox and the great filter.

It's entirely possible that most life never makes it past the single cell organism phase and we really are an exception. On the other hand, it could be that many civilisations have existed in the universe, but none have ever managed to travel far into space. Until we either are capable of long distance space travel or we find evidence of intelligent life we will never know.
