A Political Thread pt. 2

The weird thing is the invitations went out a month ago...(A friend got invited)
Did they have to sign some kind of confidentiality agreement not release info?

This one looks like it was now released because Nicholas Witchell got an invite as BBC royal correspondent.

Anyway, just means I dislike the institution even more. Not that it makes a difference to my life.

They can add to this: Not my Queen. It didn't seem to do his father any harm staying as Duke of Edinburgh all his life.

Having not seen the invitation itself but the fact me and my wife have started counting the amount of times they mention it on social media I'm guessing not.

Independence definitely ain't happening any time soon. I'm sure the other main political parties have some shady goings on regarding finances and donations but it was a massive schoolboy error letting the husband of the FM stay in that role. He should have stepped back and let someone else in as soon as she took office.

It still irritates me that they created an additional bank holiday for the coronation especially when there was already one in the calendar one week earlier and another three weeks later. This will cost the UK economy £2.3bn (not ideal during a cost of living crisis) and it's all to maximise publicity for the royals. I think they're also profiting from these new offshore wind farms.

They make my work life difficult. In that it completely screws my work/life balance which is rarely healthy as it is. It also completely screws schedule statistic as so much of work force takes time off at the same time.

Honestly I'd just rather have 5-6 extra days holiday a year and remove the Easter, May and August statutory ones.

Yeah really gutted I've got an extra weekend in may to take the kids camping..
I don't have kids, all it does is jack up the prices on that weekend when I could have any other of. I actually lucked out I already had the weekend away booked before the Queen died so am going on non-jacked up prices.

I say this with also the fact I'd decrease massively the length kids schools holidays are and give parents far greater flexibility to removing kids from school. They have none now but when I was a kid it was allowed.

That's not quite true. My ex who's Polish spent last year bouncing between the UK and Poland due to her mum being ill. Several times due my work commitments she had to take our 2 kids out of school. The school were fine with this, they just get a bit annoyed when people try and take their kids skiing on the cheap. Staggering term times would help

I wouldn't get rid of bank holidays for more flexibility to be honest. They tend to be great for managing workflow, I have just started a new job this week so not a great example but there tends to be a bit of a wind down in the couple days before bank holidays and an easing back in after.

If clients weren't trying to avoid certain dates to set deadlines my work-life balance would be far worse.

They're mostly concentrated around Easter and May with one exception in August. I'd prefer the option to work a couple of them and take them off in lieu when it suits. I guess this is possible with some employers.
