Can't wait for this to be yesterday's news. The BBC bosses have made arses of themselves and I've heard that Lineker is a proper diva behind the scenes (fame probably gone to his head). He's basically an overrated TV presenter who landed a plum gig IMO. Roy Keane is a far better watch.

I think Lineker is a good presenter. Knows his football. I recall when Des Lynam left for ITV and never thought they'd fill his shoes, but over 20 years later Gary is still there. Sure he has his political views and can't help but voice them. I think the fact other pundits stood down alongside him shows how much he is respected.

Keane's a grumpy pundit with a the good quip now and then. But he's not a main presenter.

Great if you earn enough and save and also to
Keep Consultants in NHS working on defined benefit schemes, but doesn't address lower paid workers who are never going to put in anywhere near £60k Gross a year. Few put in the current limit even with 3 year carry back.

Yeah i was obviously totally wrong on this. Thought he stepped down. Just when you say the Tories/this country can't sink any lower they say hold my beer

Not sure if this is the best place, but seeing as governments make laws etc...

8 1/2 years feels extreme considering the starting point for actual rape is 5 years. Don't get me wrong, she should be punished but this feels disproportionate.

I guess it's because it was multiple victims and she thoroughly destroyed their lives, almost driving them to suicide. That's some pretty serious damage to have caused people and it also harms actual rape cases. Many rapists get off without punishment so personally I think those who try to abuse the system to falsely claim rape should also be severely punished (where it is proven beyond reasonable doubt and not merely a lack of evidence to support it, as it the case with many rape cases).

I'm pretty sure as well that 5 years for rape would be lower end where something like a drunken guy forces themselves on a woman in a spur of the moment case. Repeated cases or cold and calculating cases I'd imagine get much longer. From what I've read, her actions were pre-meditated and calculated to cause harm.

I don't know sone poor guy spent time on a sexual offences wing for no reason. What she did devalues every single true report that comes forward and potentially puts an element of doubt in a potential juries mind. Where most often the defence is relying on showing the dishonesty of the victim. Evidently over 100 other crimes were recorded because of her lies. Damage to the mens properties, Tommy Robinson turning up stirring hate.

The problem with improving rape convictions is that a vast majority of rapes are from people in relationships. You still get very few stranger rapes. The fact sex has taken place isn't in doubt it's then about consent. It's very difficult to prove if you do not have marks of a struggle etc, especially if the allegations historic.

I know a few cases where men have been arrested and the allegation has been false. Mainly relating to unfaithfulness and drunken regret.
