A Political Thread pt. 2

So a sports presenter has to be so neutral that he can't express a completely valid opinion on his private twitter feed...

I wonder if anyone will compare it to the likes of Folau, which was a completely different situation as he tweeted something offensive and probably illegal.

No you see - Linekar's not allowed his speech, under free speech absolutist reckonings.

Besides, he was right - which is why it's upsetting for her.
Remember, we now live in a world where calling someone a nazi is worse than being a nazi. Saying that someone is using nazi-adjacent language is worse than using nazi-adjacent language. Saying that the PM deliberately misled parliament is worse than the PM deliberately misleading parliament. etc etc
Yep, better for an actual child surviver of the Holocaust to accuse Braverman of using Nazi rhetoric instead. Has more impact. But surprise, surprise she refused to because didn't actually use the term "Nazi" but rather "invasion". What a hypocrite!

To be fair he's cancelled himself. Lol. No way was he going to be sacked for what he said but he took the decision himself and fair play to him. Glad a few of others are following his lead as well.
He hasn't...by all accounts the BBC have stood him down by him not backing down. Which actually the most worrisome part considering how news presenters such a Andrew Neil have conducted themselves outside their BBC programmes.

Neil, Clarkson never got cancelled (until Clarkson hit someone) Suppose Keys and Grey are available

The BBC top brass have clearly been leaned on by the Tories here. Lineker will get a lot support from his peers and the public over this.

Campbell has been letting it rip but also getting to the heart of that matter and why not only the policy but now the actions of BBC are so abhorrent to many.

"Impartiality" at the BBC has only ever meant those on the right can publicly express their contempt but those on the left can't. Mattis and now Lineker losing their positions for calling out this ******* scum of a government on their bullshit.

I've gotta say, as a political tactic, I can think of better options than declaring war on Linekar (and football), Attenborough, and free speech.

The Tories have messed up big time here. They could have let it blow over (after Lineker's initial tweet) but they chose to call him out via Mordaunt at the dispatch box and Braverman on radio and it's just made everything ten times worse.

A former England football player and now sports presenter has been removed from his job because he was critical of a government policy...very dark road we move down
