A great big Munster thread

Sad, a nice guy and hardworking pro.

I think we've enough outside backs to cover tbh. We need 12 and 13. Deasy for 12!!!

Wonder will B. Murphy go the same way, i really hope not.

Downey is on radar too feic now yes he won't be Irish class but he is a fine player for Saints and can do a job

You'd want to bring in at least two tbh. When you compare Munster's centre options to Ulster and Leinster's you start to see how far they've let it slip in that department.

Feic I agree with that I'd hope we can get 1 worldclass centre for after World Cup and a solid player like Downey who won't be going World Cup and is available from start of season.

People forget JJ can do good job at 12 and will hopefully see time.
Murphy might get fit and be an option.
Ivan Dineen is anothe who seems to be forgotten.
Add in Johne Murphy Mafi and maybe Keatley if Cusack plays 10.

Then hopefully 1 player will be signed like Downey and that should be a decent amount of cover.

But I don't often slam Munster boys but lads Tom Gleeson and Scott Deasy are overrated and overhyped. I see them enough and don't get me wrong Deasy is a decent cover for ML but that is their limit

Easy Snoop because it easy to see working here and then reading media how Cork hype up cork based guys and Limerick do same with their own.
But with Deasy and Gleeson it is taken to a new level. I've seen a he'll of alot of ML and H'Cup rugby in the flesh to know the standard required etc and at the moment they are a long long way away from that. Back up to ML is level at moment

Ai, I've always thought that Gleason was a bit rubbish. Never known what to think of Deasy. Had one or two games at fullbacl, I heard that he thinks that he's an outhalf and well he's just rubbish at centre from what I've seen.

That said, I don't think much of Dineen either.

There's this fella UP THE COUNTRY, HE'S GETTING A BIT OLD now but might be worth taking a look at. His name is Brian O'Driscoll
You heard it here first.

Munster 25 Squad to travel to Brive: http://munsterrugby.ie/news/8896.php

Backs: Felix Jones, Denis Hurley, Doug Howlett, Johne Murphy, Sam Tuitupou, Lifeimi Mafi, Keith Earls, Paul Warwick, Ronan O'Gara, Conor Murray, Peter Stringer.

Forwards: Wian du Preez, Marcus Horan, Stephen Archer, John Hayes, Tony Buckley, Damien Varley, Mike Sherry, Donncha O'Callaghan, Mick O'Driscoll, Donnacha Ryan, Niall Ronan, David Wallace, James Coughlan, Denis Leamy.

To think I actually believed that shite about blooding young playes once we got to the quarters of the Amlin.

No sign of Zebo, Nagle, O'Donnell or any of the other backrow prospects. Butler or O'Mahony (still injured??).

Murray's probably wouldn't even be there if O'Leary wasn't broken.

No monkey all them lads trained just weren't selected but think Murray wouldve been there regardless as he has taken his chance well earned the jersey

Yep, team for the future right there! Good o see Munster reacting positively to getting knocked out of the HC and giving the young lads a chance. Who knows how good the likes of Mick O'Driscoll, John Hayes or Sam Tuitupou could become?

What Feicarsinn said.

Training will only do so much good.

I'm not agreeing with selections just saying lads aren't injured were just overlooked

Alan Quinlan has confirmed he will retire at end of season. A true gent and well some love him some hate him but he was a hard player who gave his all every time. I expect to see him on coaching ticket next season.

So at Munster do you get a coaching job instead of a testimonial game?

Good timing by a long serving player. You feel his best days had passes a year ot two now and moved along just on time for O'Donnell, Butler and O'Mahony yo be making their moves for a place. Shall feel a warm fuzzy feelings when I see him causing trouble in my Munster DVDs of the days of old. A player that really adapted his game as he got older..does anyone else remember the days when he used to get the ball in hand a bit more often, had a fair bit of power/speed back in the day. And I sahnt forget him breaking his wrist scoring a WC try against Argentina.

On another point. Munster squad for Scarlets includes Barnes, Zebo, Williams, Cusack (but he's rubbish), Archer, Sherry, Butler and Leamy.

MM, couple of questions. Is there a particular reason why Nagle isn't been given match time after his more that decent performances during the 6 Nations period and secondly, do you see one of O'Donnell, O'Mahony or Butler shoving off west or to the GP at any point in the next cúpla years?

The Nagle situation irritates me. If Munster aren't going to use him, why re sign him? We're crying out for another second row up here!

Well I'll start with Quinlan. I expect he will be given coaching job because for last 6 months he has travelled up and down to Dublin after trainings/rehab busting his balls for his coaching badges and has vast experience to pass on.

No I don't see any of them leaving because there is a massive chance for players next season at start and the 3 you mentioned (plus Billy Holland) I would hope can really challenge. Niall Ronan is probably the player I'd look to offload as I think O'Donnell a better 7.

Nagle and O'Mahony have been left out at request of Cork Con because they're needed in AIL semi and expect maybe Zebo and possible 1/2 others to join them

FFS, what an amatuerish attitude toward player development. No eye on the big picture.

Wrong way to look Feic. These guys have played majority of AIL and Con don't have sufficient back up in their squad and made a request. We accepted as we felt guys deserved to play in a Semi Final of a competition they've tried to win all season it means to them what a Heineken Cup mean to experienced players in provinces. Imagine taking BOD or Cullen out of Toulouse game because that's what it'd feel like for these guys
