9 team prem?

Yeah, Watson and Genge campaigning for bigger salaries during COVID was incredibly tone deaf

It's a tough one because remove the sugar daddies and there's what, one? two? clubs that can sustain themselves (and barely)
Salaries would drop massively, players would leave - the whole ecosystem would change drastically

It's France and Japan that are the issue - especially as their 2nd divisions are now paying enough to beat a lot of prem contracts

And certainly for France - the reason that they're the problem is that got their acts together in 2017 when awarded the RWC23, and did things right, and collaboratively to grow the game from the top down.

The japanese clubs are all linked with huge multinational corporations which is where the money comes from. If the English prem clubs were owned by, say, Shell Unilever HSBC LBG etc, they could all pump £10m a season easily and offset that for tax reasons or whatever it is big corpos do. Then that money could be used towards whatever it currently does, plus additional funds for 'growth' for long term

Confirmed now out recruitment is stopped unless we get funding. We're on the verge of collapse I reckon...
Won't be the only one either with only a handful of home matches a season. 14 team premiership needs to happen ASAP.

What's been the cause? Falcons have traditionally been one of those who cut their cloth accordingly when required. Hope the situation is not as bad as we fear and investors are on hand. I guess fans can take confidence in the fact the other clubs and CVC are loaning Newcastle the money, all will be expecting a return so must have some confidence in things improving.

I heard that Newcastle have £11m of covid loans still to pay back. If that's the case they are 100% going to struggle until those are settled.

I don't think it will be that high? the 13 team league only received £88m and we had/have the lowest expenditure. Regardless, the gov could very simply cancel the remaining prem debt if they want the league to survive and recover
