[2025 Six Nations] Wales vs Ireland - 22/02/25

When the Lions tour comes around Wales fans will understand how Ulster fans are feeling now. Maybe Ireland's new policy is to only select players who will sing both anthems.

Even moreso than Wales I'm not sure who Ulster have that merits inclusion.

Any if the players you could even think about arguing aren't fit.

Yeah Crowley won't be given much of a shot this 6 Nations clearly. Can't really say the injuries have hurt the side much. Conan and Sheehan start on merit if you're picking your best 15 anyway. Keenan being rested a slightly strange one, but fair enough. Think Osbourne is a better centre than 15, but should be interesting.

Full team due at 9, but barring a last second injury the rumoured side will be the same

Ireland team to play Wales: Jamie Osborne (Leinster); Mack Hansen (Connacht), Garry Ringrose (Leinster), Robbie Henshaw (Leinster), James Lowe (Leinster); Sam Prendergast (Leinster), Jamison Gibson-Park (Leinster); Andrew Porter (Leinster), Dan Sheehan (Leinster, capt), Thomas Clarkson (Leinster); Joe McCarthy (Leinster), Tadhg Beirne (Munster); Peter O'Mahony (Munster), Josh van der Flier (Leinster), Jack Conan (Leinster).

Replacements: Gus McCarthy (Leinster), Jack Boyle (Leinster), Finlay Bealham (Connacht), James Ryan (Leinster), Cian Prendergast (Connacht), Conor Murray (Munster), Jack Crowley (Munster), Bundee Aki (Connacht).

Cian Prendergast for Baird the only difference from the rumoured team I think.

I don't rate Prendergast all that highly. Good workhorse and flexibility, but I don't think he's a top level player.

To be absolutely clear I meant Cian. I am passive aggressively avoiding talking about his overrated lanklet brother.

Ominous for Baird.

I think he's caught between two stools, not quite big enough to be a second row and lacking the attributes to be a modern six. He's a fabulous open field carrier but imo doesn't have the skills to be an effective breakdown specialist or bulk to be an international ball carrier in traffic. It's an awful waste of talent, and not through his own fault. We really need to find a young POM.

Are there any more Prendergasts in the pipeline? They could become the Irish Barretts.

No but there are four more Osbornes. Andrew is already in the Leinster academy and the other 3 are apparently highly rated.

Guess Prendergast makes sense as if it's Baird there's no real 8 cover. Still as said I'm sure he'd have been hoping to nail down a spot ahead of POM at this stage.

Goodman earlier in the week named 5 lads who could be captain. Don't think Sheehan was one haha.

Surprised Beirne wasn't named captain to be honest, but being future focussed Sheehan makes sense. Speaking of Beirne he really does get flogged by this Irish setup. Plays every game it seems.

Huge fan of Cian Prendergast and really hope he gets enough time. Feel for Ryan Baird. He effectively had 1 performance that wasn't poor but equally not great and seems to be dropping down of radar. Can see likes of Tom Ahern chasing him down now also and Mangan they seem big on too. Interesting comments by Paul O'Connell said Prendergast covers 6 and 8 and Peter O'Mahony 7. So if anything happened Josh it will be Pete switches to 7 I guess.
Think this is a good squad overall and shows a bit.
1. Hopefully Boyle pushes Healy out now and transition works smoothly.
2. Gus McCarthy is #3 for Ireland now.
3. James Ryan was going very well but don't think he is seen as a starter now that Joe is back.
4. Osborne hopefully goes well and has great game to pressure Keenan.
5. Hansen hopefully gets form back.

My only fears are Keenan was looking to find rhythym back but will now have a 1 month break effectively.

The younger Osborne's aren't prospects ala Jamie and Andrew.

I haven't seen much of Mangan but from what I've read he is a big hard b******d, which is exactly what you want in your 6. Hopefully he has the football skills and intelligence to go with it. Hansen is hugely important to our attack so a return to top form would be very welcome.

Would rather Rogers at 15 but quite pleased he's dropped Adams. Thought the 6:2 split was BS, made no sense to call up Evans and not have him in the 23.
