[2025 Six Nations] England vs Scotland - 22/02/25

Are we, though?

So much is being made of the France result, ignoring it was such a close game and they left at least three tries out there with terrible hands on the last pass

We'll have to wait and see but I think it's far too early to say England have turned a corner

Ire is the common benchmark. We at least had a good half against them in Dublin while Sco were flat out poor at home. Sco were also pretty ordinary v Ita and while I totally agree that we massively rode our luck v Fra just the fact that we found a way ought to give confidence.

Now the challenge is stringing some results together.

Yeah. I hope the win against France might have got the monkey off our back and we follow it up with a win today.

If we beat Scotland, I'd like to think we could beat Italy and Wales to finish on 4 wins. I didn't think that was possible a few weeks ago.

It all hinges on today though. Fluff our lines again and the win against France loses it's significance.

I'm bored, so decided to do position by position who is better in my opinion.

Genge = Schoeman
LCD > Cherry
Stuart < Fagerson
Itoje > J Gray
Chessum > Gilchrist
Curry > Ritchie
Earl < Darge
Willis = Dempsey

Mitchell > White
F Smith < Russell
Sleightholme < VDM
Slade = Jordan
Lawrence = Jones
Freeman > Rowe
M Smith < Kinghorn

Subs, don't care

The results
England 6
Scotland 5
Tied 4

So that's that. England win
Willis > Dempsey, Mitchell = White.

Oh and Jones is definitely a better 13 than Lawrence.

My prediction, England look much the better team most of the game whilst playing and defending well but 2 or 3 moments of us being caught out wide leading to a close finish.

Yeah, I could definitely go along with that prediction.

Not just the France game. We've come within 1 score of beating all the top teams in the world in the last 12 months, and giving NZ a good scare in their own back yard. The difference between victory and defeat being one pass, one missed tackle and occasionally the rub of the green. Scotland most certainly cannot say the same, but arguably because they seem to have been avoiding playing any actual opposition in the last year, pluming instead to play tier 2 nations, which again arguably doesn't prep them well for a real challenge. Soundly turned over by Ireland already being an example.

I agree it's too early to say we've turned the corner. We need to be in a position to win this whole thing come the last weekend before we can even start suggesting that, but I think it is fair to say we are travelling in the right direction with some consistency. Young players coming in at last and the building of future that has the chance of being bright.

Bottom line for me is that we have all we need to win today at HQ, and we bloody well should do. Time to put the ghosts to bed, the Scots to the sword, and regain some honour.

Yep. And that's why today is bigger than 'just' another Calcutta Cup match.

Say a lot when you say Lawrence and Slade are equal to Jordan and Jones

I agree I would say France lost rather than England won.
