2022 World Cup - Qatar

Croatia seem to have taken over from Germany as the team who always get the job done in big tournaments. I wouldn't want to face them in a penalty shoot out. They look very assured.

To be honest, i know people watch these games with their hearts and not their minds, but if you actually look at the data, Germany was INCREDIBLY unlucky. In every possible sense of the word.

Apparently 1.88mm unlucky the grand scheme of things.

Ha ha. Typical Argentina to be honest. Didn't exactly cover themselves in glory last night with the scuffles and kicking the ball into the Dutch dug out but seeing that photo is pretty bad. With all the bollix that goes on in football usually their human sides come out after a pen shoot out where the winning team will always consol the losers but Argentina take it to next level. I was kinda rooting for them but seeing that photo I hope they get spanked against Croatia.

You talking about the celebrations after we won? I m not particularly fond tbh, but i am not the avg person in anything. There is some context to consider tho.

No the behaviour of the players from both teams during the game and penalty shoot out. No respect, no sportsmanship. Vile

I agree and have beein arguing with other args about it quite a lot this morning.

Having said that i am not particularlty fond of the display of such photo while not displaying the video of what happened 30 secs earlier too.

I feel a bit of a pariah to be honest. I m generally confortable in that position (HA!) but this time it feels a bit weird. I'm arguing (off line) with people from both sides of the fence (I have a disproportionate number of dutch friends and acquaintances and have been arguing with them too). As much as i enjoy a heated debate i find it hard to enjoy when all the arguments are emotional ones.

My take when talking with args is 'that was uncalled for, we should be better than that'.
My take with the dutch is 'you poke a bear you gonna get the claws'.

Hasty generalization, but not far off from reality: args are incredibly fond of delivering quite an agresive banter while at the same time being incredibly susceptible to ANY criticism from non-args. With us you are either a non entity or an eternal foe.

One thing i dont get, i really dont get from van gaal. He is a strategist, does his research and he knows his stuff. I dont think you need a thorough statistical analysis to realize at this point that angering Messi is generally not a good idea. Talk to your team about it 'hey guys, i'm gonna talk wonders about Messi and Arg this week. Dont pay attention. I just want them to lower their guard. We'll get them with their pants down later'.
That was a very, very, very stupid idea.

Not sure what the metric stands for. I was looking at the xG and the actual number of goals scored, etc.

Milimetres. But for the very silly rule of the curvature of the ball being over the line despite the ball not touching the line Japan's goal was allowed to stand.

I prefer to take a broader view though. Germany not getting enough points over 3 games in the group stage. Underestimating Japan in the first game, then only getting a point in the second v Spain and leaving it all to do in the final group match whilst relying on a result from the other match.

And to top it off That's the second time they have failed to get out of the group stage of the WC.

Wouldn't feel too sorry for them though as they have won 4 WCs including 1954 where they were allegedly doped up on "Vitamin C".

That rule has been there for ages. Have you complained about it before or just now that you dont like a particular ruling?

And regarding Japan vs Germany, i just went and checked the xGs. I dont see how germany underestimated Japan. They were unlucky.

if people were convicted on alegations alone...
There are 4 stars up there with their national crest. They've reached more finals than any other team. They've reached more semi finals than any other team.
Are we really questioning Germany's footie cv?

We've faced them more than any other team on WCs. We've lost 2 finals against them. Trust me when i tell you: don't go there.
Sure, they've had two bad tourneys. Check the one before. They won, in south america, facing 2 south am teams in SF and F. Beat the hosts and favorites 7-1.
Seriously.
